Polly D
I know there's been a good thread on this before but I am still lacking inspiration. Actually, there are loads I like on that thread but they aren't getting past my husband. Any suggestions?! Boy number 2 due in 10 weeks or so. MrsAk
Have a look here - go to the excel spread sheet, related publications and table 6 at the bottom. All the names for 2011 are there.http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/publications/re-reference-tables.html?edition=tcm%3A77-266770 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25387-boys-names/#findComment-573604 Share on other sites

crystal7
Took us ages to decide on a boy's name! We could only agree on one, luckily it seems to suit baby 2. So much harder than girl's names for some reason. I like Casper, Wilf and Theo... Polly D
Have been thinking about Wilf(red) and was M's grandfather's middle name.First born is Reuben. Husband loves Roman but agrees too similar. I like Sam but is my brother's name. We both like Theo but is name of good friend's son and feels a bit weird to 'take' it. I love Louis, Ned, Milo, Jarvis (!?) but husband has vetoed all, although Milo was his suggestion til he found out about the hot choc drink plus Tweenies character - and also seems to be popular dogs' name. Queenie23
I think Rueben and Roman would go really well together. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25387-boys-names/#findComment-573673 Share on other sites
dulwichgirl2
I like plain names for boys and flowery ones for girls viz Alexander, Richard, John, Edward, Henry, William, Archibald, James, David. Really dislike faddish names as they date very fast and pigeonhole the child. How about Richard if you like the Rs? Mrs TP
I've got girls so my opinions may not count!I prefer names that cannot be confused with surnames (e.g. not Bailey or Taylor) and also that are spelt intuitively.Having encountered endless children as mine growing up and interacting with others at school, clubs, parties, park etc we have never encountered a young boy called Peter. I think this is a sound classic traditional name and probably plenty of Dads / Grandads out there but no younger boys.Whatever it is your choice and you will have those that love it and those that, unfortunately, cannot hide their disdain - sod them you go for what you and your hubbie agree on. bluesuperted
I LOVE unusual boys names even more than I love unusual girls names and am currently struggling with our boy choice for number two as my son's name is my absolute favourite and can't find anything to match it (plus I am totally drawn to names beginning with E but I'm not keen on two Es...). I commented on the last thread but here are some extra thoughts for Reuben:IsaacSebastian JosiahJonahJonasSilasCalebAlso I know a seven year old called Peter, a 20-odd year old and a lovely but sadly deceased dog. Nice name but a little too sedate for me.Oh and imho NEVER tell anyone your name before baby comes is my big advice! We didn't and I'm so glad because people are not rude when you introduce your newborn baby and just accept it, but pre-birth it's like everyone plays an uncontrollable game of word association (or Mallet's Mallet for kids of the 80s) as soon as you so much as breathe a name you like!! I'll be keeping schtum this time again, if we ever decide!*edited to say, I know a third human Peter who is 30 and a really good friend, whoops! He did once forget my name though so we're equal! Belle
BST our names taste coincides again - i love Silas in particular but husband vetoed that for number 2. Also liked Sirius (as in Harry Potter...)Josiah is nice, and can be shortened to Jo which I obviously like :)Strawbs, Euan (diff spelling but same name) was really high on our list for ages too. Really like it as it's Scottish (which I am) but not in an over the top way. also love marius...POlly don't worry, I think we were still undecided at this stage last year! It will come to you!
