Do you feel that SE London is not getting a fair crack of the Royal Mail whip here?

What annoys me is that there seems little appetite for anyone to fix the problems we are experiencing - everyone in the Royal Mail is great at giving the excuses but we never hear about what solutions are being put in place to fix it or when it will be fixed - the lack of post for so long across a whole area is a shamefully poor reflection of the postal service - it's no longer fit for purpose, people post things on the understanding that the items will be delivered within a certain timeframe and that is the contract they take with the Royal Mail when they buy a stamp or pay for postage.

The fact that this is affecting a large swathe of South East London shows that something is totally broken within the system.

We have not had any post for getting on a for a month and all of our neighbours and most in the area are in the same boat - how long can this be allowed to continue?

I was told (2 weeks ago) that Woodwarde Road would be sorted in the next few days because our postie had recovered from being ill and was a ?good? (I think she meant hardworking) postie. Anyway, still no deliveries, and as I mentioned before I just hope everyones unsorted post is safe and secure!

Does anyone know why some roads would be getting deliveries yet others would have had nothing for so long?

A fully functioning DO will have regular post-people allocated to each 'walk' together with office staff (ones who handle enquiries in the DO) who double as relief post people to cover sickness, annual leave and rest days (post people work 5 days out of 6). If there is a lot of sickness some staff will work double shifts (on overtime).

Our DO is NOT fully functioning. Some of the walks do have regularly assigned post people - so they only don't get deliveries on rest days, holidays or when their postie is sick (as there aren't enough staff to offer any cover) - but a number of others do not have a permanently assigned postie - they may get casual staff, more frequently no staff at all. [However, collections - from boxes and POs - are handled differently - so you may not get any deliveries but are still able to post out effectively - so long as you aren't posting for delivery in your own DO, of course!]

Walks which are only covered by casual staff are frequently poorly served as casuals may not know the walk, and probably aren't being incentivised to find 'missing' addresses.

I suspect that the true appalling nature is being hidden by local management from the centre to protect their own backs. I pursued a case via Helen Hayes and (what a surprise) received close to a months supply of letters in two deliveries (over 20 items in each). But you shouldn't have to do it this way.

Here?s what the Royal Mail said to Southwark News in October??why the hell isn?t this fixed by now?.it?s got worse not better?.does the Peckham office have a higher level of sick absences than other offices?

https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/east-dulwich-postage-delay-royal-mail/

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: ?In the East Dulwich area, we are experiencing some disruption to service due to high levels sick absences and colleagues on annual leave. We are looking to resolve the situation in the near term by offering colleagues additional overtime and by getting in more resource.

?We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for six days a week. In cases of high sick absences, we typically commit to delivering at least every other day.

?We apologise to customers for any inconvenience they may experience as we work hard to resolve the situation?

RM like all our other national services has been privatised for profit not service our nation.

We've got what we voted for.

Our gas service is an other example. No investment in the long term.

The service deteriorates and the nation suffers all for short term profit, it's not a sustainable development.

I have missing Xmas parcels, cards and hospital letters.

Another dribble of old post yesterday. One letter, dated December 6, was from a bank informing us of unpaid arrears on my partner's credit card. Except that she didn't ever apply for the credit card. Has anyone else had this recently? Any theories how it happened?

Also, what happens if a delayed letter is a fine for going through one of Dulwich's restricted routes and by the time you receive it it is too late to appeal and the penalty has increased? Does the RM accept any responsibility for consequences like this?

Yes, seems odd that we aren't receiving old christmas cards now that we expected but are receiving little bits of business-related mail - it almost feels as if they are being prioritised as RM might not want to lose lucrative business customers.

I am still receiving Christmas cards, some posted weeks ago, but am still waiting for financial-related things, also posted weeks ago, so I'm not sure that that's true.

It all seems totally random to me. Some larger items seem to have disappeared forever.

That suggests what a terrible mess things are at highshore road then - more cock up than conspiracy!

(although there does seem to be a pattern to the chaos - last week it was cards, yesterday we only got financial mail, maybe next time it will be cards again. maybe something to do with the way things are sorted for rounds).

All together:

?On the 13th day of Christmas Royal Mail gave to me - 6 Christmas cards and some spam from an estate agent?

Has anyone been the Royal Mail tracking site? A hilarious five minute trawl through different links that leaves you right back where you started. No chance of contacting anyone about missing parcel. What larks.

    • I would recommend Fiona's Diggidy Daycare which is in Loughborough Junction but they offer pick up and drop off services when they have capacity.  My dog has been going there for 3 years and loves it.
    • Ask him politely if you can help him.  I remember staring at my old flat.  Can I help you a neighbour asked.  Yes I said, I had seen that they have split it into two flats. And we had a chat about it.   Edited to add - if they are doing this in plain site then it sounds harmless, but it would be good manners to knock on your door.  In our area there is someone well known on X that walks up and down taking pictures of anything out of the ordinary, often quite trivial, supposedly for laughs.  I could speculate who the owner could be, a creative or a gangster, but that would not be appropriate!
    • Hi. I’m looking for an Ikea ekanaset armchair in light grey fabric (now discontinued) to match one I already have. Just asking on the off chance someone is about to get rid of one!  Would need to be in good condition. Thanks.
    • Hi folks, I'm hoping it's nothing, but we've noticed a man drive up outside our house in a white Jaguar XE 2.0 (example pic below), get out, take some photos of the building work with his phone, and then drive off. We've seen him do this a couple of times over the last couple of months.  Reg BP16 UAJ. Is it anything to be concerned about? I'm hoping it's just an architect or someone interested in the design and building work...
