Just to provide a balanced picture, the share price may be "well up on 6 months ago" but only after recovering from an all time low, having plummeted around 80% since its peak in May 2018. It's currently hovering around where it was when the shares were first sold. So perhaps Royal Mail wasn't "sold off cheap" after all but for about the right price. Shareholders rely on Royal Mail too you know. It's not some sort of capitalist conspiracy, apart from the institutions who subsequently shorted the stock maybe.

As for me, I've been getting post most days. Sadly, around half of it has not been for me but for neighbours or people with the same house number but who live on nearby streets. So, I've been out and about re-delivering mail several times this week. Not sure I'm getting much value from my Royal Mail shares given that I'm having to do part of the job myself for free :-/

Spoke to our lovely postie today (yes, we got mail delivered!) and she said most of the problem is with the sheer amount of packages. She has said not many staff off sick and they are working very long hours. Would seem the problem is with management not investing in more staff (and vans).
I emailed the regional and the local managers as my road has had no post for more than 2 weeks. 12% of the staff off sick, some temps are not turning up and the volume of plat is up by 67%. I pointed out that Christmas should be planned for and that Covid and the increase in online shopping that has come with it had been going on long enough to plan for. Remember, folks, the price of stamps is increasing very soon!

Junk mail ?

Just had a reply from Stephen Buckley, the Chairman and CEO of Royal Mail

"Some areas may get covered for delivery rounds only every second or third days" Ha! We should be so lucky. Every second or third week, more like.

if anyone feel like expressing their views.

Thank you! I shall be expressing my views (but not till after Christmas .....)

I doubt it's him answering his own emails anyway :))

They'll have a standard response and some minion will be churning them out in his name.

Post received today: 1 Christmas card for one of the grand children from a loving Granny (she would have also sent a card to the other gc and us as parents but these two did not arrive). 1 card posted in SE24 and a letter from King's dated 18th December. What an incredible random mish-mash. Meanwhile the cards posted from other friends and family over 2 weeks ago still not here. Nor any of the parcels ordered by my daughter which were advertised with delivery dates of 22-23 December.

So Bic is an only child and we are trying to work out who Nic is

Well I can reveal the truth (as there's no post till Tuesday now)

On a Thursday night, down at the Legion's drag queen night, Nicole ShirtSinger is Bic's stage name as he goes through a routine starting with Please Mr Postman, Signed sealed not delivered, letters that didn't cross in the mail and his/her big finishing number the Postman always rings twice (before leaving a non delivery note)

Catch him before it's too late 😎

    • The Post Office has been heading for extinction since James Barber’s Lib Dems split it away from Royal Mail so that they could sell off the latter on the cheap. We’ve all been paying the price of that decision with closure of Silvester Road and the dreadful deterioration in the postal service locally.

    • A franchise Post Office is in fact a sub Post Office. It isn't able to provide the same services as the current Crown Post Office on Lordship Lane. Things like Road Tax, Passports, etc are not allowed via sub Post Offices. Likely the staff wont be transferred across as their hourly rate would decrease. It may be the hours of operating will increase. Crown Post Office staff are often unionised, sub Post Office staff are not usually unionised. Franchise sub Post Office commission for completing the various services is lower than for Crown Post Offices.
