sanity girl
Could it be impetigo? That is very infectious and sounds like the symptoms you are describing. My son had impetigo all over his stomach and chest - looked terrible but cleared up after a course of antibiotics. What did your GP say? Sanne Panne
GP said the area didn't seem infected and the wounds are clean and pink looking. Guess I'll have to wait... Otto
My son had something similar - I am certain the doctor will let you know, but, it may be (and your description sounds like) mollusCum contagiosum - my child broke out after a few swims in a local pool (which I shall mot name as we cannot verify 100 percent it is the source). If so, it is harmless, but, can take a while to disappear - his took over a year. As with any rash, the most impotant thing is not to scratch as that is hoe infections can occur. Good luck, and, I am glad you have been to the doctor for a definitive diagnosis. uptime
This is weird. My daughter (20 months) has broken out in a horrible rash on her face. She also goes swimming regularly (Jags and Latchmere) though I hadn't thought they were the source as presumably both are chlorinated. Large circular white spots which have now become red: dry and scaly in parts and shiny raw in the middle. Originally thought it was linked to a rash in her nappy area. The doctor last week said both rashes were thrush and we were given canestan. That has got rid of the rash in the nappy area but her face has got worse not better. We are going back to the doctors this afternoon so will let you know. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25300--/#findComment-572213 Share on other sites
Sanne Panne
Thanks uptime and good luck at the GP. It sounds different what our kids have so I wouldn't read too much into my story but I'm obviously not an expert :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25300--/#findComment-572241 Share on other sites

uptime
Definitely not a swimming pool related infection. The doctor wasn't entirely sure what the rash is but we have been given two new creams which seem to be working! sanity girl
I knew it! Hope the antibiotics get to work quickly. My son wasn't given dressings, but the lesions should clear up pretty quickly with the antibiotics - do make sure she finishes the course - I ended up having to give my son a second course as we didn't quite finish the first (it was such a pain getting him to take them as they tasted foul and I thought he was better). And I'm sure the docs told you to be careful about bathtime with siblings, not sharing towels etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25300--/#findComment-572764 Share on other sites
Sanne Panne
We will definitely finish the course, my daughter deeply hates the antibiotic too in spite of it being pink but she understands she needs to take it so it's not too much of a struggle. We need dressings as it's on the hip and lower waist (i.e. high friction) area and even the softest/loosest leggings would stick to the wound and it's not "long dress with nothing under it" weather anymore.. we now let her soak the dressings off in the bath, jump on our bed to let them dry and reapply dressing. I know it would dry out more quickly without anything on it but it doesn't seem practical. Open to any tips!I may actually let her wear a dress only in the house once she's not contagious anymore which is 48 hours after starting antibiotics. Carbonara
One trick with antibiotics and other nasty medecines is to give a chocolate button immediately BEFORE the dose, so that it is still in thier mouth when the nasty taste goes in. then another straight after. Saffron
What type of dressings are you using on the affected area? Hydroclloid dressings can be used on wounds of low/medium exudate and need only be changed every 3-5 days. Compared to traditional gauze-type dressings, hydrocolloids promote better wound healing, are more occlusive (less dirt gets into the wound), and provide better pain management. Hydrocolloids have been around for years, but I'm still finding that lots of people don't know about them or don't know they can be used on 'wet' wounds. You should be able to buy them at any large pharmacy. You often find them sold as large sheets which you cut to fit the affected area. xx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25300--/#findComment-573002 Share on other sites
