Is anyone in the area home-schooling secondary school-aged children? I have a small batch of them who were supposed to be starting in Year 7 but haven't got places at present and so until such a time as they are offered a place at a school I'm happy with, I am resigned to home-schooling.

I've just joined Education Otherwise but it would be good to make contact with local home-schooling families asap...

I am in similar situation,my son has been waiting since last September for a place to become available at kingsdale in dulwich. He is now second on the list but with no time frame to when he will start. We have been home schooling, but I am desperate for him to meet up with other kids in a similar situation whether it is for lessons, educational days out or just socially.Maybe we could sort something out,I have a good collection of key stage 3 books in most subjects but would like Alfie( my son)to get used to having lessons with other kids as it has been quite an isolating year for him.

Look forward to hearing from you and any one else in the same situation.

My daughter is of year 6 age and we have been home schooling her since half way through year 4. She is likely to be going to seniors school next year however this last year or so of HE has been fantastic. I would suggest looking at the situations as an opportunity to give them something a little different, if it is only for a short while.

London is absolutely full of HE'rs and there is plenty for them to do. A good starting point would be to join SLHE google group. This group is for HE only matter/issues/questions however it is a good place to start. You will have to request to join so I would advise that you just say you are home schooling and for the moment might be best not to mention that you hope its temporary! Not a huge issue but they have a policy of ensuring that only genuine HE families join the group, which is fair enough.

Hope this helps and I'm happy to help answer any general questions re HE

    • It’s a lovely place to live.  If you are worried and want to compare with other areas from a crime perspective the stats are available online:  https://www.police.uk/pu/your-area/metropolitan-police-service/performance/compare-your-area/?tc=E05009317 Good luck!
    • There's been a spate of phone snatching around East Dulwich station and along Lordship Lane. But don't let that put you off the area, these things come and go. I've never had an issue late at night in the areas you talk about and I've been around here for 18yrs (before I moved I had the same concerns as you). Go visit your areas late at night at different times for your own peace of mind (I did)
    • Posted September 20, 202Hello all Hello all Just a quick message to say I've just had a job postponed so I have some time available to do some work for you if you should need a painter around the end of the month. I also do a variety of other jobs too so if anyone needs a handyman, please feel free to get in touch. Happy to do a free quote. Thanks for reading
    • So sorry to hear this. Our bike was stolen from outside Dulwich Library earlier this month. We had a D Lock and they still got through. Probably the same person who’s just cruising up and down the lane. I hope you find it.
