Yes, that is what happens when someone won't accept the evidence presented to them. You know full well that influenza is one of the most monitored viruses on the planet, but your cognitive dissonance is so pronounced you think you know better than decades of highly qualified people doing that research and collecting that data. You keep repeating the same nonsense as a result.
CD is when actions contradict beliefs eg. when someone holds and believes pharmaceuticals are not to be trusted then they have there children vaccinated. It is only cog diss if you experience discomfort and have an awareness of the inconsistency of it whilst holding conflicting beliefs. I reckon I"ve got a high tolerance for uncertainty and ainconsistencies. I think scientist who spend there lifes looking for hard facts probably have a bigger problem with cognitive dissonance.

Your data source? Mine is https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/weekly-national-flu-reports-2019-to-2020-season. The flu season is only just starting, so the current reports are still fortnightly summaries only and don't even mention secondary care admission data. The latest reported GP consultation rate for influenza-like illness (ILI) is about 2 per 100,000 population in England.

Have already gone through this with TE44, who seems to think viruses stand still at any given moment and fails to understand the difference between seasonal viruses and one that is active all the time. The usual winter flu intake will happen, and we'll see how effective this years flu vaccine is when it does. Meanwhile, we have daily exponential growth of covid as the public become more complacent. Easy enough for anyone to understand I should think.
ianr That is not hospital admissions your link, I will try to find the papers I read tomorrow, who knows we might find there's been another error by then. we also must remember regardless if someone is in hospital with unrelated problems to Covid19 but tests positive this does not give an accurate picture. As we have also seen time and time again.

Fact or fiction, yeah only following orders.

Blah blah lets see how effective these rules are. Disgusting, is this how you like to see people complying. How many people do you think can be treated this way, justify this inhumanity. Few thousand, I wonder whats next, they've got to increase restrictions especially after that burger the other night.

Facebook is removing all QAnon pages from it's p;atforms

"A company spokesperson said the enforcement, which started Tuesday, will ?bring to parity what we?ve been doing on other pieces of policy with regard to militarized social movements,? such as militia and terror groups that repeatedly call for violence."

Facebook and other platforms hiding behind the US constitution should have done something a long time ago. There is still plenty of material referencing Q Anon and other conspiracy theories all over them. In short, until they change their business models, from ones that encourage clickbait, they haven't really addressed the core problem.

TE44, you keep presenting these ad hoc incidents as some kind of argument for doing away with the restrictions, so I ask you again, how many people are you prepared to see die (or impacted for life with lung damage) before you think restrictions are needed. What is your benchmark? It is a simple question, but you never seem to want to answer it.

And there you go again, avoiding answering the core question and resorting to insult.

So c'mon, let's have an answer. How many people are you prepared to see die (or impacted for life with lung damage) before you think restrictions are needed. What is your benchmark?

This link is an interview with Professor Bhattacharya a medical officer Stanford University. Along with ither scientists who are speaking out against the lockdowm. He states fear driven by the unknown has caused greater risk from the lockdown than the virus.

In US 1 in 4 young adults in the month of June seriously considered suicide. People stayed at homewhen suffering heart attacks and stroke from fear.worldwide 130million additional people at risk from starvation. He absolutely disagrees methods being used saying its the single biggest public health mistake he has seen in his career. More scientists are speaking out and hopefully this cancelling of voices will stop. I would like to see more of scientists with different opinions sharing platforms. Instead of this fear of losing your livelyhood for different opinions. We know vulnerable people are at risk, death is a reality for those people, yes it can be scary as it was last year going into seasonal changes. I say this as someone who recognises my own choices on keeping myself safe. Yes there are vulnerable people who need different levels of care and people who provide that for them. This is where the focus and help needs to be. I believe the level of fear is so widespread it is taking this focus away.

It's easy to pluck some random "scientist" out of the air with a contrary view - but you need to back up their bonafides

be it promotion of tobacco, climate change or economists for brexit we hear the same thing - "the experts are divided" - but it's never really true - a small number of outliers are held up as "balance" - but the core message remains true

https://www.wired.co.uk/article/great-barrington-declaration-herd-immunity-scientific-divide

Sephiroth Why the need to silence people. The core message has been a multiple of mistakes, contradictions, wrong datas, and has taken people lives. The number is not clear. A pandemic would see people dying in the street, I can't even hear a cough. People are dying in there houses from fear.

When you say people are being silenced, who exactly do you mean?

"A pandemic would see people dying in the street, I can't even hear a cough."

Where do you get that definition of a pandemic? You can't even hear a cough? That's just a weird thing to say in a country which has suffered so much. We can agree that the government is not handling it well (compared to many other countries - especially comparable countries) but if you are going to deny it's even happening well... that's just dangerous

Sephiroth I am saying it is not the pandemic that justifies the actions. I have had it myself and almost died, I am aware of different threats to myself unlike some who have had to rely on the system protecting them. This has not happened. The other people are the doctors, economists, scientists and lawyers who are growing as the time goes on. And the damage is obvious. Although some people believe there is not enough silencing, tending to put everyone, regardless of there qualifications, under the idea they are all conspiracy theorists. Some even putting profession people in the terrorist group.

And like a broken record, TE44 still won't answer the core question. How many people have to die to define a pandemic?

Infection rates are rising again. So too are hospital admissions and deaths. Only a fool can not see the correlation between that and lifting lockdown. So I ask you again TE44, how many people have to be dying each day before you recognise a pandemic. Clearly a 900 a day back in April was not enough for you. Nor is in excess of 1 million globally either. When you answer that question with a figure, then we can talk about the outliers you keep citing vs the core consensus of 99 percent of everyone else.

And fyi, I am going to keep asking you that question until you answer it. So you may as well.

Hospitals in north west on course for close to 1000 deaths a day again

I?m sure TE44 can still prattle on about not hearing a cough - but government inaction and indecision is in part down to people like them pushing back

https://www.hsj.co.uk/coronavirus/regions-hospitals-set-for-850-covid-deaths-by-mid-november-says-leaked-modelling/7028613.article

Especially when they pull stunts like this.

There is an inevitability to all of this, and the reason I keep asking TE44 that question on deaths is because I think that he/she would be the first to complain if we saw the full force of this virus, and be demanding government did something. This is not flu or a common cold. The public for the most part have taken that seriously but sadly, some will never understand that unless we unleash it to do its worst.

KK, I hope your relatives both make full recoveries. Not an easy time for you I know.

    • Avoid companies that are run by non trades people Seems to be the trend lately. Check them on Companies house first. There are some great family companies or sole traders. LMQ Roofing 07860 467708 [email protected] ANR Roofing 08009330439 Fist on my list is Liam McQueen https://www.lmqroofingservices.com/ Honest, reliable, constant updates, proper written quotes professional and lovely polite workers. Great work. Also though we did not use them in the end ANR Roofing based in Wimbledon offered some sound advice and quote.  Also very lovely family run firm. And Crest Roofing based in EC1V 2NX came and gave a quote and seemed very lovely with some advice also. 07934 975769
    • Had a terrible experience with this company recently. Their rooofers were abusive and really not nice. Simple job to remove an aerial which we knew would mostly cost in scaffold turned into a nightmare, They dug up old rotten boards in our front garden (there for beetles) and use under the scaffold. When we questioned the positioning of the scaffold (we needed it down the side and not on top of plants and garden) I received a torrent of offensive teenage sexist shouting. The main guy doing this was called Jimmy. They did eventually remove the aerial (no tools to do so I had to supply) They told us the side of the hip needed new timbers and re-roofing. We'd recently had it inspected and it looked good (I'm a carpenter by trade and went and looked at rafters inside - no issue. They seemed to take offense at my carpentry knowledge also. They pulled ridge tile off then told us it would be 3200 to repair!! Stood on a non load bearing lead canopy and more.  Left cooked food and rubbish in garden, Just avoid them is my advice. One of an ever increasing number of firms owned not by trades people who subcontract and pay the scaffolders pennies. I'll do recommendations in another post!
    • I live locally and am on Lordship Lane and North Cross Road most days. I've never been forced into traffic, or noticed any problem in any of these places! I appreciate that might be different with a buggy or mobility aid. I like to see people enjoying themselves outside.
    • It's good that you've never personally had to experience poison being left but it is a known fact in this area. It's not fly tipping - people leave food out for foxes but there are also people who purposefully leave food out to kill animals.
