I was there yesterday...a large deposit of fresh dog poo near the tennis courts, people playing in the tennis courts, and a group of teens with a ghetto blaster hiding in the Memorial Garden....the days are numbered I fear

There is a sign on the Alleyn?s playing field gate saying it is open from 7.30 to 5.00 for people to use. As you walk down Townley Road from LL on the left, the small gate is unlocked, past the double gate which is locked

People are starting to abuse the privilege. Yesterday 2 sets of 'families' had set up football games with real goal posts that had been left out. This is taking up too much space and as we walked across the field the balls were kicked and pursued by children who had obviously not been told to keep their distance. There were people sunbathing over near the woodland area of the perimeter and sitting in groups on the perimeter which is where we like to walk around (but then had to go on the field and dodge the footballers)

As we were leaving a group turned up and one of them had a hockey stick!

At least there were no dogs this time.

Residents are trying to monitor the use of the field as Alleyn's have not provided any security. Police say it is private land so they can't act although we did have a police presence on Friday moving people on who were sunbathing and kids skateboarding on tennis courts with a radio playing. Why do some people think the govt crisis regulations don't apply to them. If Alleyn's decide to close the field because of problems then everyone will lose out.

A helicopter flew over twice at about 1300 and the same family that set up a full size goal posts did the same today. There was another pile of dog poo which someone had thoughtfully put a marker on. There were also a lot of cyclists on the grass....(for crying out loud)

I'd be surprised if what most people mean by 'cyclists' (i.e. people with road bikes and all the gear) were using the grass to cycle on - it's not generally a pleasant experience to ride on and I'd say that all the cyclists I know would far prefer to be on tarmac and actively avoid grass. If you just mean people with bikes, then yes, I'd agree it's ridiculous and they'd be better off practicing on the roads while they're so quiet.

Any news on the ones along the South Circular - being able to jog around those would relieve the pressure in Dulwich Park.

People with bikes aren't cyclists then? - who I assume are a special breed above. I do hope people with bikes don't get in your way when you are using your (obviously exclusive to you and fellow Lycra addicts) cycle lanes. If only they just called them people with bikes lanes they could have been democratised.

Not who I am, Penguin68, and your interpretation of my post is wrong as my views are actually far more aligned to what you've written.

Apologies Applespider if I have traduced you; it is just that, to me, 'people with bikes' who are riding them (anywhere) are 'cyclists'. Whether they have the gear (and indeed whether they have expensive bikes) or not. I accept that there are trail cyclists and mountain bikers and speed/ track bikers (who are specialists) as are BMX aficionados. And for many of them a flat grass surface will not offer their biking experience. But a rose is a rose is a rose.

To clarify- there were people on racing bikes with speed helmets and Lycra...they dumped their bikes and sunbathed. There were people on mountain bikes and children on various sized kiddie bikes who dumped their bikes and sat around or played footie...anyway today it was very quiet as that North wind fair blows across that field.

There were 2 blokes playing tennis and their ball went out of the court. A runner picked the ball up and threw it back. As we walked past the tennis court the tennis player actually had the tennis ball in his mouth....I hope the runner didn't catch anything!

My family has been playing football on the field, using our own portable goal for 9 year olds (Hopefully no one would have assumed we used any of JAGSs full sized goals) Is it against the regulations of the JAGS field to play football?

We keep to one corner away from the entrance and my children know to keep the distance to others. Our bikes would have been by the side of the goal as we biked to the field from our house. I am not sure if previous posts have been directed at my family, but whenever we have been to this field, there has been plenty of space for others to exercise too and we have had no complaints. Hopefully seenbeen is referring to someone else as I feel we are a responsible family.

If you READ the notice on the gate it says no sports no dogs and other things

Alleyn's have just announced that their field will be open until 8 pm in the evening to allow people to exercise (not sunbathe) after work. A new notice will be going up which will make it clear that no cycling is allowed on the field. People are still sitting in groups and when approached have the ready reply that they are "in the same household".If you do use the field for exercise please respect the privacy of residents whose houses back on to the field some of whom are recovering from having had the virus, and others who have been deemed vulnerable.

As I write this the police have arrived to remind people of the government guidelines. When they were here on Friday I overheard a WPO telling a sunbather who was arguing with her -"I don't have a garden". A reminder that the police also have a difficult job to do and live with the same restrictions as the rest of us.

Have checked the sign and yes, it does indeed state sport as an ?inappropriate activity?, in the small prints. I think it would be worth it to have a larger sign saying no sport for those of us who only glance at the sign and see the use is for exercise and don?t read the small print to say sport is inappropriate (To me exercise = sport) Not saying this to annoy, but it may stop others who were happily playing football there today :) (and it wasn?t us, promise). Yes I was there today and saw people playing football and also people wheeling cycles across the grass.

Its a wonderful welcome amenity and I wish people would get it into their skulls that playing with footballs or playing tennis on the lawn is sport.

Went over yesterday at lunchtime (have been going every day as its my nearest open space) and there were a group of men playing footie and another group playing footie. There were people in the tennis courts continuously.

No dogs, and no cyclists. A horrible increase in Litter (for crying out loud!)

Went over there today and it is locked, no reason given on their website.

When I go over there I walk around the perimeter a couple of times - take a breather on a bench and then go home...

There are gardens backing onto the field and they have gates and I've seen residents coming on to the field from the houses backing on.

I can only assume that the inappropriate use has been reported or that the caretaker has not opened up for whatever reason. Anyway- will try again tomorrow....
