I can understand that concept ruffers, I just don't see what the advantage is - or who benefits - closing weeks earlier than necessary.

Don't forget we're talking about a cemetery full to capacity, with very little space for mass death events !

"..imagine the public reaction to "We have to close the cemeteries now! Too many deaths!"


If/when we get to that stage, it won't really matter what the public thinks and there'll be no need to sugarcoat it !

But, again, WHERE is the space in Nunhead cemetery ? It's full !


As an aside... A FONC member told me a couple of years ago there's 260,000 buried there, many in deep pauper/general graves (in the Northern corner).

"In line with updated guidance from national government, from 25 April, Nunhead Cemetery is open to the public daily. Opening times are:


8.30am to 8.30pm in April

8.30am to 9pm in May

This brings the closing time in line with Southwark?s other parks and open spaces during the emergency period, to give everyone additional time to visit safely while maintaining social distancing."
