Keef
I've avoided this thread so far, as the thought of the CPT closing fills me with an unparalleled dread! The fact is, that whilst you're totally right Sue about the lounge bar and the plant things outside, the owner simply won't spend a penny on it, she wants rid, and that's that.I was actually sitting at the bar in the public bar on Saturday, so probably saw you. Unless you were the guy in the stetson-type hat, lol :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2510-what-is-to-become-of-the-cpt/page/2/#findComment-75787 Share on other sites

Michael Palaeologus
I remember buying Dulwichmum a glass of CPT white - I spilt a drop on the bar and the varnish started to bubble.DM loved it. Keef
MadWorld74 Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Raise it to the ground........> > .....or force it to have a re-fit and actually sell drinkable wine. The girls have tried getting some better wine in in an effort to improve things for odd people who drink wine in pubs. Like I said before though, it's all down to the owner at the end of the day, and she aint gonna do a thing. lozzyloz
Keef do you know why the CPT is proving hard to sell? Is it the sale price in relation to trading profit? If that's the case then surely it would make sense for the owner to make an effort to please a few potential punters and increase turnover = best selling price. KidKruger
A few years ago when the patio area was built and they 'ternyised' the pub, a sign went up saying no dogs, no work clothes and no something else (can't remember). This meant a lot of local tradesmen (including my neighbour who'd being going there with his crew every weekday for almost 30 yrs) could not go in at the end of their day. I know they also felt a little resentment and therefore at weekends if they were out for a pint, went elsewhere i.e. the Hearn or the Castle. This is no dig at the bar or the owner/proprieter, just ONE of the reasons why there are less customers there than there were, say, 10 years ago. It's not on the high st, it's purely residential area so it's going to be mainly working folks living nearby. *Bob*
The 'no work clothes' thing is just plain stupid. Not only do you alienate tradesmen who would otherwise come-in for a lunchtime and post-work pint, it also gives the impression that it's the kind-of place which 'troublemakers' need to be excluded from. Like people wearing overalls can't have a drink without starting a fight. James
No dirty work clothes? Seems perfectly reasonable to me. I don't want to be rubbing shoulders at the bar with loads of filthy workmen. Unless they are attractive, that is. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2510-what-is-to-become-of-the-cpt/page/2/#findComment-76370 Share on other sites

Keef
*Bob* Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Because everybody says how much they love the place (and then they go and drink in The Bishop)Spot on!MadWorld74 Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> add onto that list .... 'No drinkable wine of any sort'Out of interest when was the last time you tried? The work clothes thing was really stupid, they used to get a load of workmen in after work, especially on Fridays, and between about 5pm-8pm they'd drink a sh!t load of stella between them. That rule must have really damaged the takings. The current staff don't seem so bothered about it, the sign is still there, but I don't think they bother enforcing it at all.I don't know the reason it's not selling, there was one potential buyer who had pretty much sealed the deal (I know his girlfriend through a friend, and he was giving her a guided tour), but something obviously went wrong late in the day. Keef
If that is how you feel, then fair enough, but you shouldn't then slag off their wine when you refuse to try the current crop, as actually you have no idea what you're slagging off do you. That's a bit like saying a film is rubbish when you've not seen it.
