Hi James

Please can you confirm when work to install signage and markings for the East Dulwich CPZ will resume as we currently have some roads completed and others not.

Please can you also confirm when the East Dulwich CPZ will be implemented as parking and traffic levels are increasing.

Thanks

Hi all,

Agree about the toilets - I will push for them to reopen asap.

Re CPZs, the Peckham West one is now in operation. Peckhamgatecrasher - if you have been fined and were not given adequate notice that it would come into effect I may be able to get your fine written off. Drop me an email with details.

Tradingfiddle - work on the East Dulwich CPZ has recommenced but I don't have a date for when it will go live yet.

Best wishes

James

Thanks James - would re -echo comments about the toilets in Dulwich park. Toilets have been open in motorway service stations throughout, the royal parks are trialling opening too.

We need the facilities re opening but with plenty of soap - people need to carry hand sanitiser to use preferably before and after. Closing the toilets indefinitely is not the answer though - people are using the bushes, it is horrible and needs urgently addressing by providing access to public toilets.

Yes! I daren't open my food waste bin, which hasn't been emptied for a couple of months. I don't have space for composting, so unfortunately all my kitchen peelings etc go into the general rubbish.

Hello, can you please investigate the non pickup of food and garden waste please? Considering Southwark is now charging an annual fee for the garden refuse bins, an explanation would be most welcome.

My collection also works well, although a new crew once did miss kerbside caddies put on garden walls (wasn't looking up). Luckily I spotted that and he did then pick the the caddies. Apart from that I've seen no problems in Underhill. If your caddy isn't at the front of the property on the pavement (or on another bin) it may be missed.

Hi all

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine!

Park toilets

As noted above, I pushed for the parks toilets to be reopened and they have been. Hurray! Get in touch if there's any further issues.

Pavement widening

It is possible that this can be considered in the next tranche of traffic measures. Please make sure they are logged on the commonplace map.

That said, I cannot promise anything. We are constrained by lack of funding. And we want to make sure all measures are carefully considered for potential negative effects.

Food waste collections

Thanks for raising this. Please make sure you report these missed collections on this form https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/general-household-waste/report-a-missed-collection

The Waste Management team are normally very good at rectifying any mistakes. But if there continue to be any issues please let me know by email, specifying your address.

Best wishes,

James

So the council can find the money to go against pretty strong public opinion in order to close roads and alter traffic flows at the Dulwich Village intersection (a couple of years after re-doing it) yet you want to use the excuse that there is a lack of money and even more laughably that you want to make sure all measures are carefully considered.

The situation is starting to feel like a practical joke.

The plastic barriers Lambeth have put up around Loughborough Junction don't look like they cost much at all and seem to have been repurposed from somewhere else. Why isn't Southwark able to do the same around East Dulwich - it seems our council has been so focused on fast-tracking their road closures through that they have neglected any actual Covid assistance measures for the majority of residents.

It is ludicrous they have done nothing to assist social distancing on Lordship Lane.

It would appear that no schemes are being put forward for aiding social distancing / widening pavements / increased bike racks / reducing traffic flows on the lordship lane:

I've reported this on commonspace already, it's been a problem even before the C19 pandemic. The bushes outside the block between Christchurch and the corner Florist on Barry Road/Lordship Lane is overgrown. This narrows the pavement making it difficult for people to walk without going into the road. During school run its particularly busy. It makes it v difficult to socially distance safely. Can something be done about this quickly? Getting so fed up I may take a machete to it myself!

Yep, the main shopping street in the area and the council has absolutely nothing to help people social distance, or make it easier for businesses to reopen. It's actually pretty negligent.

    • I'd reread what you posted and try to summarise.  It just comes across as a rant.
    • Just shows, to me, once proud to be a citizen of UK.. now.. well if we pay/contribute to services - nhs, police, fire etc and folk who have made this there home - no matter what creed or culture.. for the love c of God, can someone  please explain to me.. how we have working royals who like them or not, have tried and continue to actually support and make a change and then we have Andrew.. who just destroys everything.. not just him, or royalty but his own children..  I had great admiration for The Queen - and respect.. as have a huge number of people.. but.. these old traditions where gosh.. live rent free and can’t get chucked out until I believe 2070? From what I scanned..well he has and continues to have it all.. has to go thru what old rules? Etc.  doubt very much he has even kept the upkeep maintenance up on his abode.. and do the shite keeps on pulling up.. What has Andrew done for UK or for that matter since he was 20?? Do please tell me       Totally off topic, before anyone jumps down my throat.. I just do not get how anyone is proud to be British at this point in time. Whoever is in power, seems to be able to help themselves to the public purse with no redress at all - Covid is a great example of lining of pockets.. Millions  given to Rowanda, so one is led to believe, to help with refugee problem and one can’t get a plane load off!  I simply do not get it at all. Use of food banks in UK growing yearly, homeless as well, nhs, police, fire service etc all on their knees..
    • Have applied the green roof at a number of properties and no issues you are concerned about detected. Have issues with cats defecating in the vicinity, however, they are not selecting the green roof specifically. Use decent compost, slow release fertiliser specific for green roofs, and lay it methodically not leaving blank patches. It looks amazing when cared for and adds value.
    • Some suggestions for mandatory action might include:- 1. Permit retailers to display facial images on the premises  of previous offenders at their local store. 2. Sound an alert and display images on screens inside the store when the FR flags up a person entering who is on the national database of shoplifters. 3. Physically bar recognised shoplifters from the premises. Should they attempt to force entry then charges should be pressed under aggravated trespass, which  a criminal offence under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. 4. Change the law to allow retailers to have enhanced powers of citizens arrest. What would you suggest? The UK seems to have the most lenient policy towards shoplifting , probably because of other demands on the police force. On the plus side, they may have more time for it now that non-crime hate incidents will no longer be investigated. Other countries, such as the USA have much more sever punishment as does Singapore where repeat offenders or aggravated cases can be sentenced to up to 3 years in prison, a fine, or both.
