ARobinson
We're thinking about getting a scooter for our toddler who was 2 in April. See the 3 wheeled ones are better for younger kids and the ollie (??) brand is most popular. Is it worth getting one now? He seems a bit interested and had a play on one very briefly. Also is there a recommended place to buy one? Not sure I even have the name ollie scooter right as not much coming up on google (excuse naivity!) Any scooter tips much appreciated please! gebbjane
We got our daughter a mini micro scooter for her 2nd birthday in June - she loves it, has a little difficulty in steering (veers off to the right) but is beginning to get there. They say from age 3 but see so many younger children with them and our daughter is small for her age but she is fine on it. We got ours in jo jo maman babe on lordship lane, same price as John Lewis and Cheaper than buying direct from micro scooter who charge delivery. rachel83
My daughter got her scooter around age 2 and it took her a while to master, around age 3 till she got the hang of steering it! She still doesn't really use the brake properly, prefers to put her foot down :o Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24846-scooter-advice/#findComment-565034 Share on other sites
DaveR
Mini micro are brilliant, and 2 and a bit probably the perfect age for most kids. Our scooter has been going strong for 6+ years between the 2 kids. Customer service is also very good - they supply spares at a reasonable price with very clear instructions how to fit (we've replaced a wheel bearing and a spring in the base of the handle) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24846-scooter-advice/#findComment-565057 Share on other sites
mima08
Hiya, I just bought a second hand mini micro for my LO. He is only 18months but has been longing for them a while (lots of sly attempts to play with other kids' scooters at the playground). He cannot really use it yet, a couple of tries with one foot but mainly he just pushes it along. But it keeps him very happy and entertained for long stretches of time. I justified the early purchase with the fact that one was going cheap and that it will (hopefully) last for years to come... echo
there is a smaller handle stick for the mirco scooter which makes it perfect for 1/2 year olds. My DD2 (two soon)has it and she was scootering a whole year earlier than her big sister. Pickle
My son was 3 before he mastered his scooter, but daughter was scooting confidently at 19 months, so it does depend on the child. Best money we have spent, they are still going strong now a few years on. ARobinson
Thanks all for the scooter advice. Think little man will be getting one soon. Look forward to him scooting about whilst I push his little brother in buggy! ainas
Kids Scooters are available everywhere now. I think it's good that they are getting exercise with fun and enjoyment but It has some hazard to ride for the older pedestrian Maybe some road rules should be established or at least a warning bell attached somehow. Any ideas? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24846-scooter-advice/#findComment-603888 Share on other sites
