because they are trying to claim it as an open space, being used for community purposes, to dissuade a reversal of the planning decision which closed that junction ?

Maybe , like the communist party of China does in Tiananmen Square, the council could put on an annual show of its might by driving dust carts through it once a year whilst the crowd politely clap chairman Peter John (if they don't clap they will face death by a thousand CPZs ) and the villagers can all release doves dyed red in his honor and to celebrate crushing the evil West's plan to allow freedom of driving

I love the way they celebrate the fact the "Square" has been created whilst the newly-created A-road that is Dulwich Village roars in the background.


I may be tempted to complain that they are blocking a major cycle route with these events....;-)

It is interesting to see our Councillor turn up to support, no effort to social distance at this Covid-19 designated closed junction and Southwark Events confirming that the organisers have no licence to use this space as none have been issued under Covid measures.

He hasn't been answering questions on anything for some time...not just the closure of DV which he supported and actively used to lobby the residents of Melbourne Grove to gain support and lobby for his proposed closures of said road......


Probably on holiday, he's a schoolteacher so this is officially his time off.


The goings on at that junction are annoying now - there was some sort of musical duet there a couple of weeks ago, people standing around. It's still a road - there were still cyclists and pedestrians and a couple of people on mobility scooters looking to get through it all and finding it quite difficult, especially to maintain social distancing. Not going to be long before some idiot dancing in the "square" collides with a scooter or cyclist and blames the legitimate road user.

As I pointed out, interesting to see our Councillor turn up to support. Southwark Events have confirmed that the organisers have no licence to use this space as none are being issued under Covid measures.

I'm disgusted about it and I live nearby but do not want to be associated with the people there. By the way, Au Ciel is one of the two businesses supporting the closure. Wonder why? Lucky they got their alcohol licence virtually nodded through.

I understand that gatherings of no more than 30 people are allowed. Looks like more than 30 people in the video. I wouldn?t be happy if I lived on Court Lane/Calton junction with all that going on outside, think the closure will be losing any remaining support with locals.

Yeah, it was so much nicer and safer when it was an endless chain of white Range Rovers driving 1.5km trips on Really Important Errands.


I can't stand people enjoying themselves.

Really ... the rare white range rover, a very endangered species normally seen in its native environment of the scrappus yardus of Sloane


Bit of an exaggeration there tbnhg , now if you said family cars filled with families doing family things it might have been credible.


I think rouwj is referring to the risk presented by a large gathering of spreading the virus during a pandemic that hasn't gone away despite the way people are behaving
