apenn
My son's 3rd birthday is coming up and we're wondering what bicycle folks recommend for this age. He's great on his scooter but didn't use his balance bike much. Tricycle? Go straight to bicycle, maybe with training wheels? What did you do and what brand would you recommend? Thanks, -A Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24655-what-bike-for-3-yr-old/ Share on other sites
KatDew
Our son very suddenly developed a love for his balance bike at 3. You may find he goes back to it. whirly
Our son had a 2-wheeler with stabilisers, but he insisted the stabilisers come off about a week after his 3rd birthday and that was it. If your son is confident with his scooter, etc, he may be the same. nunheadmum
At 3, I'd say getting a light bike is probably most important - heavy ones are harder to handle. But as KatDew says, don't be surprised if he goes back to his balance bike. Kids often get put off if they can't do things straight away. Now he's bigger, he may manage the bike better and hence enjoy it more. And they really do help with the transition to proper bikes in my experience - saves a lot of sore backs for parents! echo
I got a 'puky' bike for my 4 year from Brixton Cycles. They took the pedels off so she can use it as a balance bike first, then the pedels, therefore skipping the stablisers stage. Its a good bike, but seems heavy to my untrained eye....
