Application for extended late licence at the Great Exhibition

Are you really trying to claim dj that 9.30 is going to stop people sleeping.....most people go to sleep after that time. If you choose to live next to a business, which as others point out has been there for a very long time, then you have to accept their will be some impact from that business.

I was wondering now that we have 2 good pubs on Crystal Palace road, if anyone thinks there'll be a knock on effect with less people on the Lane? I think the TGE is excellent, that seems to cater for most.

There's a distinct lack of sky sports around the area now..especially with the Mag, old CPT, and soon to change Vale not showing footie (& rugby). Perhaps there are too many pubs in the area, or maybe not enough? - Just wondering....

Haven't the GE withdrawn part of their application now, focussing on the outdoor space aspect of the application ?

The Actress is NOT located in a less residential area than the GE.

It is entirely surrounded by houses.

The Actress is NOT mindful and considerate of its neighbours.

At the moment, a couple of dozen people are yakking and squealing at top volume on the terrace. The noise is invasive and very unpleasant. The hot weather brings the drinkers out in droves and we can't keep our windows open because of the noise.

The only reason why the Actress seems to be less of a nuisance than the GE is because of the vigilance of us local residents.

We remember how cleverly Scott (remember him?) used the Forum to launch the Actress. A lot of Forumites fell for his bait, poor fools, and swallowed his marketing strategy whole. They seem to be still falling for it even now. (But of course Scott is long gone, having sold out to a chain, laughing all the way to the bank.)

I was brought up on a very narrow street within a radius of 36 pubs, single glazed sash windows which had to be left open in summer, lots of noise and merriment during the summer months. Can only remember my sleep being disturbed about twice in the 18 years I lived there due to fights directly outside my bedroom window.

Some years ago I nearly bought a flat opposite the Herne before it's reincarnation. The reason I chose not to was one can never anticipate if a pub will get better or worse noise for noise levels.

I wish I had bought that flat now.

But if you buy near a pub I really don't think that you can complain that there is associated noise.

I also lived near the CPT for a long time and loved it for the quiz but the rest of the week they weren't getting the customers in and ultimately a business has to make a profit. I think the great exhibition has been one of the best restorations of a pub locally.

Years ago the Uplands now the Actress was a bikers pub and many of the long term residents of East Dulwich will remember that according to friend who grew up in the area there was a lot of noise.

I think what I'm trying to say is you get used to noise and children will sleep through anything once they're used to it.

Otta /Jezza / David A - Whilst DJSenior may sound a little....emotional..... imagine if your back garden backed onto the new rear garden drinking area. An area that wasn't ever used in this way previously.

All of a sudden you have a constant noise over the garden wall to much later hours and a house that will be substantially devalued (by many thousands) and become much harder to sell and possibly some real disturbance to any elderly relatives /young kids.

It's easy to dismiss their distress if you are not living close enough to be directly affected on a daily/nightly basis. Worth keeping in mind no?

Whilst I don't think the hours for that area are unreasonable. It's use at all for drinking should be properly thought through and heard at committee in terms of it's impact on the immediate vicinity.

My neighbours are out in their garden most night and are quite noisy. But as long as the noise simmers down by 10:00 then there isn't much I can complain about really. If I lived next door to a pub, then I would expect it.

We are not presumably talking about amplified music outdoors at this time, just customers talking until around 21:30?

I walked up to the great exhibition tonight at 21.30, didn't even hear a peep of noise. Even now that I am here customers are respectful and noise conscious. There are even people outside taking noise readings with children in tow so surely this is not as big a problem as being made out.

I personally think its nice to see a pub doing well that isn't one of the characterless lordship lane 'bars'. It's somewhere for the local community and I think these complaints are nothing more than bitter misery. It's not like they're running club nights or having noisy lock ins, it's a pub with a smoking area. If this was anywhere else in Europe the neighbours wouldn't batter an eyelid, it's just another example of snooty east dulwichers wanting to live in an area with all the lovely bars, restaurants and other attractive amenities whilst expecting countryside harmony.

The problem is that the pub, for a long time had virtually no customers. Residents have obviously got used to the pub effectively, not being there. Well it is there and has been there for a long time. It's been revived and is once again viable. TGE is not an excessively rowdy pub in my experience and if you move next to a pub, then its a bit much to complain when it reasonably goes about its business.

Disagree. If a new louder sound system replaced an old not very loud system should u use new system at max volume without complaints. Same differnce with GE. Its money over neighbour relations. And phase 2 has not begun yet which i seem to recall was bar etc on the 1st floor. The fact that the GE management are not on this thread speaks volumes, (pun intended).

Can it be well OTT and perhaps need management to have a word with their customers at times? Yes

This is a total NO NO

I live in crystal palace Road and successfully campaigned againest The Actress ( as it was previously ) getting a similar extension.

I dont want this pub to be a magnet for already drunk people coming up from Lordship lane etc to continue making noise until after 2 AM.

THIS IS A RESIDENTIAL AREA.

Once drunk these same people will make their way home NOISILY as usual back through the same residentil streets

The owners should know better than to piss off their local residents by applying for this

I'M BOYCOTTING THE PUB FROM NOW ON, and encourage other to do the same, at least until the decision is made.

I like the pub at present, and have had nice food and drink there, and like the atmosphere, but this is going too far.

Jeez people need to get some serious perspective. There are much bigger things to fixate on! The pub isn't opening later and the management are really monitoring sound levels at the moment. Surely there are more important things to be getting het up about than a pub???

Has anyone on this thread (notably TGE) taken the time to read (APPENDIX C) the 50 (FIFTY) letters/emails OBJECTING the License extensions, while the ludicrous original application has been withdrawn - there's still an application for late hours, for drinking and dancing - how people are going to quietly dance until late into the morning hours when local children need to sleep is literally impossible.

The owners of TGE have totally alienated themselves from 50 local neighbouring families - well done chaps.

ALL concerned need to be present on the 30th Aug, 10am - its VERY important for the health of local families.
