Quaywe
ED'ites. There is a new bill various parties are trying to push through government called the Sustainable Communities Bill. Basically the bill addresses the major issue every UK high St has at present in being overrun by chain stores. It empowers local governments to have more choice in the type or stores that can open their doors in our High Streets. The bill needs public support, including yours. If you care about ED and don't want to see it overrun by these chain stores then you should attend.Sustainable Communities BillCentral London RallyMonday March 26th7.00pm - 9.00pmMethodist Central Hall, Storey's Gate, Westminster(3 min from Westminster tube station)More details here: Sustainable Communities Bill Rallyhttp://www.localworks.org/themes/locworks/sidebar-stats.jpg Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/246-sustainable-communites-bill-rally-26-march/ Share on other sites
mockney piers
Do you have any links to what the bill actually entails. Though I'm more or less supportive of the sentiment, more intrusive (and usually ill thought out) legislation and regulation is very rarely the solution. If they've got it right I'll certainly consider lending my support.*edited after finding the link on the link provided*http://www.localworks.org/files/sustainable_communities_bill_current.pdfIt's not very encouraging, it doesn't really specify anything except the provision of more interfering busybodies and writing endless plans and reports. I'm guessing the thinking behind it is to add yet more institutional inertia on top of all other obstacles that starbucks would have to hurdle in opening a new branch anywhere. Quaywe
Agreed that it's not the best designed bill in the world, however, let's also agree that it's better than what we have now and will do more good than harm. :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/246-sustainable-communites-bill-rally-26-march/#findComment-4439 Share on other sites
