Sally Eva
Roll up. Last exercise before Christmas. Weather forecast: mild, dampish later (anyway probably going to change). Free, local, all welcome. This is the Victoria and Albert 400 ride. That number isn't miles but the total of their ages if they were still alive today. It starts at 9.30 at the Park Life Cafe, Burgess Park Chumleigh Gdns, SE5 0RJ. The cycle route from East Dulwich is here: https://cycle.travel/map/journey/129745Victoria and Albert were both born in 1819, one in May, the other September. Werner has a 16 mile route planned for an anniversary ride, taking in the eponymous embankments (means "same name as" or named after), the similarly eponymous Victoria and Albert Museum, Albertopolis in South Ken, and at least one statue of each. You will be glad to know that the 16 mile, delightfully flat route will also include a cafe stop. Ending at 1pm back in Burgess Park. No route map but (provisionally): Albert Statue, Holborn, near Holborn Circus (which it's possible to pass many times without recognising Prince Albert on the horse); the Victoria Embankment; the statue of Victoria outside Buckingham Palace; the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens; the Royal Albert Hall opposite; the Queen?s Tower at Imperial College; the V&A in Exhibition Road; Harrods (impressive display of materialism in case anyone wants some); Victoria Station; and the Albert Embankment These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends (this is where Werner comes in) on behalf of Southwark Cyclists who are very grateful. Like everything else we do these rides are free and open to all. We are the Southwark branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Our website is here: [southwarkcyclists.org.uk]. The LCC website is here: [lcc.org.uk]. You can contact us at [email protected], tweet or follow us @southwarkcycle or phone Bruce who organises all these rides on 07729 279 945. We are organising more rides over Christmas including a Boxing Day special also run by Werner. More detail here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/boxing-day-healthy-ride-2/. There's no need to book for any of these rides, just turn up. They are all easy-paced and most last about 2 hours with a local start. All free.
