How much have people paid to have their front garden repaved?

We have a medium-small front garden (space for all of Southwark's bins and room for a small shed type thing).

We've been quoted between?3,500-?4,500, excluding materials. Seems extremely steep for replacing old paving with new simple paving (not asking for anything fancy)

Thanks!

If the quote includes removal of existing concrete foundations for your paving I would suggest (plead) that you consider replacing with gravel over membrane or brick/ porous pavours. That will allow rainfall back into the land and avoid run-off. It will help stop subsidence associated with drying clay etc.

It is worth googling 'cost of driveway paving' to get an idea of alternatives and comparative costs. Depending on the actual square meterage and complexity your initial quote which you said excludes materials does seem on the steep side.

If your contractor is having to dig up for the work, do remember that your services (water, electricity, gas) will run towards your front door (probably). These are meant to be set deep but in my case I found the electric cable was only 1 foot deep or less! It was nearly severed and would have been if I hadn't had a very good contractor (and friend) working on it.

Excluding materials?!?!?!

I think some people just ask ridiculous amounts in the hope that somebody will eventually pay it.

In East Dulwich, some people probably will :)

    • Thanks, i don't know those other restaurants but they sound good. There was a very good Malaysian restaurant on Edgware Road but I forget the name (not Melur, further north than that). tbh though I have to choose carefully with Malaysian, I do find some dishes very hot. Don't know en root but if it's plant-based it's right up my street. Thanks.
    • Absolutely, another coalition was nailed on with the bookies, three big factors, Tories playing it very cute with constituents in marginal seats, LDs being punished for tuition fees and not pushing Tories harder, and Milliband's public persona in particular the right wing media.  irrespective of unnecessary austerity the country would have been in a better place if there had been another coalition.
