Kesc
How much have people paid to have their front garden repaved? We have a medium-small front garden (space for all of Southwark's bins and room for a small shed type thing). We've been quoted between?3,500-?4,500, excluding materials. Seems extremely steep for replacing old paving with new simple paving (not asking for anything fancy)Thanks! Gloves
You need to ask them:- How many days work? Assuming between ?200 to ?300 per day for labour charges- Will they use any plant? A digger would cost approx ?70 to ?100 a day- Skip would cost about ?400 a week, including permits and removal..... Jules-and-Boo
it's labour intensive but shouldnt' be that much. Although it depends on the state of your garden.Get agreement for complete work, rather than "pay by day" as you can guess which would take longer Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/243913-cost-of-paving-front-garden/#findComment-1388967 Share on other sites
Penguin68
If the quote includes removal of existing concrete foundations for your paving I would suggest (plead) that you consider replacing with gravel over membrane or brick/ porous pavours. That will allow rainfall back into the land and avoid run-off. It will help stop subsidence associated with drying clay etc.It is worth googling 'cost of driveway paving' to get an idea of alternatives and comparative costs. Depending on the actual square meterage and complexity your initial quote which you said excludes materials does seem on the steep side.If your contractor is having to dig up for the work, do remember that your services (water, electricity, gas) will run towards your front door (probably). These are meant to be set deep but in my case I found the electric cable was only 1 foot deep or less! It was nearly severed and would have been if I hadn't had a very good contractor (and friend) working on it. Kesc
Thanks everyone, particularly for the constructive replies... What I was looking for is rough ideas of what others have spent though so I can pay a fair price. worldwiser
If I recall correctly we paid just under 2k including materials which also included a pathway of Victorian paving. PeckhamRose
It IS a fair and constructive reply, when asking about the cost to also consider the ecological cost of not having planting/grass where such planting and grass was initially placed.
