Last time I just listened for American accents! I have short brown hair and will have a red bugaboo buggy with baby in tow and an almost 4 year old running around. I may recognize a few people, so lets just meet outside the cafe where the kids usually run around and I think we'll find each other :)
I have a gym appt which normally I would skip but have thrown out my back which means I have to rehab it at the gym per doctor's orders SO I will be a little late- probably more like 10:30 but hope to catch up with whoever is there! Looking forward to it!
Hi, I'd love to meet up. Three days a week during school hours, it'd be my 2, almost 3, year old daughter and me; otherwise it'd be my 9 year old girl and 6 year old boy as well. Weekends are trickier given juggling everyone's schedule. Maybe we could do one of the days you work from home, twinsmom, and see who else can meet up then too. Does a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday work for anyone?

Just found this post when I did a search for Forest Hill Pools, but I wonder if you are the American mum (sorry, mom) who I have chatted to by the big yellow slide in the Baxter Field playground. My little girl loves that slide (or used to before she turned in to a total wuss over night).

hi- i'm late in joining this group, but am thrilled to see so many american's around. I'm a philly girl myself and we've lived in ED for a year. I have a 2yr old and one on the way (Jan). I really hope to make the next meet up.

i just got my absentee ballot for the presidential election in the mail. Wish i could manage to stay up to watch the returns.

warmly,

karen

Hi - am sorry I missed this thread from the start, but how exciting!! Especially if people want to share NFL package ;)

I'm from Indiana (and NY), and I've been in London for about 6 yrs now. I have a 10month old son and would love to meet up if you guys plan another !

Is there a mailing list or is it all scheduled here? hmm, what would a mailing list look like... demdamyanksinED@gmail.com ? :-)

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
