Marmora Man
I'm not with you and believe that proclaiming an anti Olympic stance when this "once in a generation" event is taking place within 10 miles of you is akin to a "look at me I'm anti establishment" 6th form protest.Almost every sport is represented - unless you totally abhor every sport there should be at least one that you'd be interested in? giggirl
MM - I promise you that there isn't one single sport that I'm interested in. I sort of like the tennis, but usually only when I get to go to Wimbledon, otherwise not bothered. Really, it's not my thing at all and I'm not interested. I don't wish to pee on anyone else's parade but it's not for me. Chippy Minton
It might not be "cool", but I'm really looking forward to the Olympics. Apart from football, I've never been to watch any of the sports I've got tickets for and I would never really watch them on TV either, but I've got tickets for six events and I'll also go and watch the torch relay when it comes to Southwark and a number of the free events such as the marathon and the road race cycling. If you don't like sport then fine, but I agree with MM - why are some people so anti? Is it really just because it's going to take longer to get to work? the-e-dealer
You are not Alone. I wish the whole damn thing was in the deep blue sea. Then my work journey would be ok. *Bob*
Most sport is dull as dishwater - unless you make an effort to get yourself interested. It's the effort that makes for the interest. That's what's good about the Olympics.. It's a giant reason to make an effort to get interested in things you would normally rather rub sandpaper on your gonads than watch. And when you get into the spirit, almost anything can be fun. Even the completely daft events. And it doesn't come round too often so you can spend the next four years blissfully sport-free. giggirl
No no no. This is not a thread for telling us what tickets you've got and what you're going to see. Glad you're happy Chippy. Hope you have a great time. Wouldn't dream of spoiling anything for you. From the bottom of my heart I wish you a wonderful Olympics. BUT - go start yer own thread.Don't assume that anyone who isn't welcoming the Olympics with open arms is "anti". Some of us just don't care. Me, I like dresses. I could put you in a room and tie you to a chair and show you endless catwalk shows until your eyes bled and you begged me to stop. But I wouldn't do that. Not for everyone see. Undisputedtruth
The Olympics tend to bore me to tears. I don't mind the boxing, judo, football and the 100 metres (well it's over in ten seconds). However, just two years for the world cup finals. Now that is something to look forward to, hey Ratty. Chippy Minton
I asked: why are some people so anti?I never made any assumption about people not welcoming the Olympics being "anti".From the bottom of my heart, I wish you a completely indifferent Olympics. jumpinjackflash
Yes Chippy. I work almost 12 hour days (sometimes more) and I don't need the hassle of disruptions to my journey. OK so it's great that London were chosen to host the Olympics bla bla bla, but the money spent and the inconvenience to many people's daily working routine has really put me off the whole damn thing. PeckhamRose
Your starter for ten:There is one 'sport' British men and women are often in the top five in the world at, but is boring to look at and will never become an Olympic sport. What is it?Oh, and Jubilympics bores me to tears too. Help-Ma-Boab
Squash. New developments in scoring and TV make it slightly more viewer friendly, still looks easy on TV, hard when playing though. Is that it?PeckhamRose Wrote:pments -------------------------------------------------------> Your starter for ten:> > There is one 'sport' British men and women are> often in the top five in the world at, but is> boring to look at and will never become an Olympic> sport.> > What is it?> > Oh, and Jubilympics bores me to tears too. Chippy Minton
JJF - if you work a 12 hour day you're at your desk for, let's say, on average 8am, right?Of course it depends where you work, but you're probably traveling through central London around 7.30am.And then you'll be leaving work at, let say, on average 8pm, right? With those hours, I doubt you'll experience as much hassle as most people.
