I've just finished jury duty at the Old Bailey. Next to each court is a jury waiting room, the seats in there were fold up seats linked in rows, a bit like cheap cinema seats. Every few feet around the walls was the following sign:

"Please check your seat is NOT in the UPRIGHT position when you sit down"

So there have apparently been people sitting as jurors at the bailey who couldn't be trusted to sit on their own arses without injuring themselves.

Random query:

I walked past the gym on Crystal palace road yesterday morning at about 10am and saw a parade of people leaving the building each brandishing some form of padded stick. Then they all assesmbed on Goose Green. I have no idea what they were doing and I didn't have time to stick around. I assume some sort of exercise class?

Can anyone explain this?

This reminds me of something... in the movie The Abyss, they used a "breathable liquid" in the diving suits, allowing humans to dive deep down into the sea. But before our hero takes the plunge, they demonstrate the principal using a rat, by submerging it in the special liquid.

The thing is, the rat scene wasn't CGI... they really did it.

telephone number layouts - we know the 3 x 4 grid by now. But it could have been sooo different if the labs approved something different back in the 50's

    • It's great that the council will do this, but it does seem a costly waste of their scarce resources, unless there are factors which I don't know about? Surely rather than dealing with a few piles of dog poo on request on an as and when basis they need to find some way of addressing the whole problem? What do other boroughs/countries do? Have things got worse since COVID, when the dog population seems to have quadrupled round here? Did some people acquire dogs without thinking through the less cuddly aspects of ownership? Could dogs be trained to use a litter tray and/or bury their own poo, like cats do? 🤣 (That was a joke, btw).

    • They could refund tix already bought though, couldn't they? We did this recently when we had to reschedule a gig due to the headliner's serious illness. That was a bit different because people had the option to transfer their tix to the new date when confirmed. But in  theory everybody could have got a refund, though in practice only a few people took that option up.
