Clifton
The Texaco filling station on Grove Vale closes on November 25th. Does anyone know what will replace it? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/241692-texaco-grove-vale/ Share on other sites

bobbsy
That's a shame, always expensive but useful at times. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/241692-texaco-grove-vale/#findComment-1382436 Share on other sites
kford
Isn't there a thread on here about it, and the plot where KwikFit and the timber yard is, being turned into flats? Reg Smeeton
This adds to the list of petrol stations that have closed in and close to SE22 in the last 20 years. Ones I can think of that closed are:- SG Smith in Dulwich Village (still sold petrol in late 90s, later became just a car showroom, now flats being built)- Two garages that sold petrol between Goose Green and Peckham Rye (one is now Tesco express, the other flats). A third (Murco) remains on that strip.- a Texaco just up from Denmark Hill station (now flats)There was also at least one close to Camberwell New Rd near Camberwell Green, and three on Walworth Road (only one remains) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/241692-texaco-grove-vale/#findComment-1382601 Share on other sites
worldwiser
I'm not sure that it's especially desirable to have filling stations so very close to blocks of flats and other housing. No doubt all possible safety precautions are taken but it's probably had its day. Kwayz
Spoke to the cashier yesterday evening and asked him about the closure whilst paying for my fuel. He informed me that they were changing from texaco to BP. rjsmall
That change would be strange considering that until a year or so ago the petrol station on East Dulwich Road was a BP before becoming an Esso. Not sure whether these businesses operate under a franchise type model or are owned by the petroleum company. When I went in to swap a butane gas canister for a patio gas one they told me I needed to take it to BP New Kent Road as that was the closest 'in-house' BP station which could do this. sjsl
I've often pondered on the disappearing petrol stations, it's not as though there are fewer cars on the road...
