The computer that this forum runs on was recently upgraded a newer, faster computer by the hosting company. However this has lead to the forum being a bit slow for some people and since reporting it the techies have said:

Some customers may be experiencing problems with sites that were recently migrated, resulting in slow response times. Our engineers are currently looking into the problem and normal service should resume soon.

We're currently experiencing an issue with network performance. This is causing slow performance for some web servers. We're currently investigating the problem and hope to get it resolved as soon as possible.

Update 9:25 - We are currently experiancing loss of service on a number of our transit links. We have been told by our provider that this is a national network issue and engineers are currently working on the problem.

In the meantime customers are likely to experience slow or intermittent internet access.

an update...

Update - 11:10 Our provider has a engineering team onsite investigating the nature of the core fibre network break in London.

Our provider will attempt to repair the circuit however depending on the level of damage its estimated a service will not be restored for at least 2 hours. If the damage is found to be more severe, our provider plans to rerouted our services via alternate paths.

Sorry about this

regards

    • With the right type of feeder arrangement the access by parakeets, squirrels and rats can be eliminated completely. Likewise, the spread of disease can be minimised. The best method is to hang individual feeders inside a wire  cage that has a 2"x2" mesh on all sides that is mounted above ground. Being above ground it stops slugs and rats getting in. And with mesh on the bottom, the risk of transmitting disease from any droppings is eliminated. Small birds feel safe from predators in three These cages are available online for about £33
    • It is worthwhile noting that the original technical meaning was 'a reduction of 10%', which does not, to my mind, chime at all with 'drastically reduce'. I know that's how it is, I think lazily, often used nowadays but it does allow 'decimate' to be used so loosely that it loses meaning. And it can be confusing to those who know it's original meaning. I think that the fact that decimate and devastate are close homonyms does not help things here.
    • Hi, I'm after a length of plastic or aluminium pipe, 40-50mm diameter and at least 600mm long. An unwanted offcut of plumbing soil pipe would be ideal. Many thanks!
