Hi all.

I am thinking of returning to work part time from September. But I wanted to get an idea of childcare costs. My oldest will be at nursery every day. (only afternoons) but will need him to probably be dropped to nursery and picked up. And then my other lil one will have to be looked after from the time my oldest is dropped into his collected and then probably for an hour after.

My question really is how do you work out prices! Is it an hourly rate or would it be a days pay even tho there only half days. Hopefully you can understand what I am trying to say!

Many thanks.

Probably worth calling a few childminders?

You may need to pay for a full day for each child, or maybe a higher hourly rate, but each childminder has his or her own way of charging so its difficult to generalise.

Also probably worth asking if there are any other parents whose child has the same nursery hours as your child whether they could help? Some of them may be registered themselves, or you could do reciprocal childcare?

Could you go back to work two or three full days rather than half days? (though I may have misunderstood your post)

Thank you. I'll look into it. To be honest I didn't think of that, I could look Into that. It maybe easier for me to get around doing actual whole days rather then every day half day.

Thanks really appriciate the advise, sometimes you need to have others input to have a clearer view on things.

    • "some people just really really don’t like having a Labour government" For heavens sake just look at the utter mess they have made in the first four months in office, suggest you re-read Rockets post which sums up everything wrong with Starmagedons approach to running and making decisions in Govt. But you'll just shrug it off as you have already done saying Corbyn and the three stooges of Starmer, Rayner and Reeves are your saviour. Look at the detrimental effect its had on UK plc. Almost wants to make me pack up and leave the UK.
    • Lammy has been a car crash in terms of UK-USA relations. Today Peter Mandelson advocated that Starmer should solicit the intervention of Nigel Farage to help rebuild bridges with Trump. Check this out UK Labour – POLITICO Starmer did not rule out the possibility when interviewed today on BBC. So now we have a PM about to grovel to Trump. Trump may well be a vile,  spiteful and unpredictable individual and I fear what might happen during his second period of tenure but I reckon he will exercise a massive amount of retribution on this UK government because of its indiscretions and ineptitude. As for making Lammy the Foreign Secretary  - that's beyond farcical. Lammy is toast!
    • A recommendation for TDR - got a quote a couple of weeks after making contact with Tony. His team ( John and Bob ) came around at the agreed date and time slot and repaired / replaced a number of roof tiles in an awkard position to reach.  They also cleared gutters, replacing gutter joint seals and adjusted the poorly installed drop on one gutter run that was causing water to accumulate in a corner. All in all a good job done at a fair price - thanks!
    • “  they announced the 22bn blackhole and many people said...but 9bn of that are based on decisions you made in relation to public sector pay rises.” I’d  be interested in the source of that  Very hard to escape the notion that behind all of the “promises, fairness, anti farmer” rhetoric some people just really really don’t like having a Labour government    of any kind - nowt to do with this one
