Hi all,

Long time resident but first post here but I just wanted to say Le Moulin is wonderful. great food, unfussy, unpretentious and could probably do with a bit of support. the meat is from William rose (of course) the fish is delivered daily from Hastings and the home made schnapps is probably not good for you but so much the better for it! Anyone born in the 70's will love it's style. Try to ignore the neon yellow Chinese sign for next door, advertising plated dishes which it doesn't serve.(Anyone who works in planning could do far worse than check Zin orientals paperwork !)

Hi Mike

I posted the following about Le Moulin recently but it was buried deep in a thread somewhere so I'll post it again:

Le Moulin (up by the Plough/Library), we went there on Valentines day and it was great (not a heart shaped balloon in sight). It's a quiet, small French restaurant run by Margret and Eric and it's a step back in time (about 20 years). Clientele was generally 50ish and regulars ("bottle of the usual white please Margret"). Decor is pleasantly brown but it's very clean and they obviously look after the place. Food was OK, had a rack of lamb which was pleasant but the fact the protruding bones had those little, white, paper things on them that looked like small chef's hats made it more enjoyable. The lemon sorbet had a fanned out wafer in it like when you were a kid.

It's not going to match other places for food but the experience was different and enjoyable. Like I said, there are regulars there and they're regular for a reason. It's a little gem of a place; we can't wait to take some visiting friends there for the experience.

2 of us x 3 courses + ?16 bottle of wine = ?40 + tip (it wasn't called a 'service charge' in the 80's) so no complaints there.

    • Thank you both. Inexperience Landlord trying to save  a few pennies - hence no agent involved. The issue is the fact that it is my understanding that without an EPC that is current then they should not have rented the property - far  more to the point and taken rent from me. They commissioned an EPC 4 weeks & I am still waiting for or a copy!!! No gas in property. Well I guess it will be a case of instructing solicitors which I have tried to avoid doing but as they are not responding at all, I have no choice. If I am correct about EPC then it will cost them alot more than refunding me my rent.
    • Went there a couple of weeks ago and had their set lunch menu - very good value and generous portions. Sea bream was delicious .
    • Some years ago, one of our dogs ate something dropped by rubbish bins outside a local café and haemorrhaged. Rushed to emergency vet in Streatham, who suggested that someone, worried about rats getting into rubbish bins may have put down poison. Our dog died the next day. Consequently, any dog we had afterwards wore a muzzle to stop them picking up food.
    • They have been awful for years. I moved ages ago.
