A bit late to post this, perhaps, but maybe it will be of some use.

My mother witnessed an incident at Goose Green roundabout on 24 October at about 10.30am. A man was crossing at the Zebra crossing in front of her, pushing a buggy. A Mercedes saloon came through the roundabout and didn?t stop, hitting the buggy (containing a child) in the process. The driver continued although they must have known they had hit something. Had the man not retained control of the buggy there could have been a very different outcome. He was understandably very shaken. My mother gave him what she knew of the registration number, but not her name or contact details. I suppose neither of them were thinking clearly at the time. If anyone knows this man, please let him know he can get in touch via the forum if he is pursuing this through the police.

Thanks

Im sorry to hear that, how awful it must of been for the guy with the buggy, and your mum.

Where that particular zebra crossing is, there should be a pedestrian or traffic lights. More often then not, drivers do stop at the zebra, however I have used the zebra in the past, when taking my nieces to the toy shop, and on a few occasions, the driver stopped, when I was on the zebra.

Since the council installed the traffic lights, at the ED Grove, Lordship Lane Jct, accidents have reduced.

As a car driver, this roundabout really annoys me as cars do not indicate which direction they are travelling and many a time I have had to brake sharply . Many years ago Southwark wanted to change the roundabout - cannot remember whether they wanted to reduce it or replace it with traffic lights ( this was about 10/15 years ago) Local residents argued against this as it made ED different to other Southwark areas (retained its 'village appeal!)
I had a near miss on there as a pedestrian too, I could touch the car jumping back as it passed me! Got the number plate and reported it but nothing happened. I just hoped at least if they were stopped for something else it would be on record but shame more can't be done. I am now even more careful than before and I was quite freaked out as I was on my way to collect my children from nursery so kept thinking what if had been on the way back with the buggy. I am so glad that the Dad you mention was able to keep his buggy and child safe!

What was the reg number please? Or what portion of it does Mum have please?

Hi Kelpie

Thanks so much for posting this! My husband is the one that had the near miss and he was really shaken up. He did mention that a lovely lady had taken the reg and helped him calm down a bit. Unfortunately, when he called the police later that day they couldn't trace the car with the information he gave.

He wants to pass on his thanks to your mum for being so lovely and helpful.

If anyone does have more information on this, we'd be really grateful so we can update the police. They were crossing between Just Williams and the EDT. Absolutely no reason for a car to be going faster than 20mph and miss a bright yellow pushchair.

In that case the chemist mentioned by Peckhamgatecrasher above may still have a CCTV record, depending on how far back the record goes?

Really glad your husband and child are OK, it must have been awful. I hope the driver is caught.
