Textile and Fabric Recycling

Hi all,

I know there was a thread about this on here last year, but does anyone know where you can recycle clothes/fabrics that are not good enough quality for charity shops? I'm talking about (washed and clean) stained clothes/off-cuts of fabrics/moth-eaten stuff that I don't just want to sling into landfill. This is stuff that could be ragged, I think.

I did go to the West Dulwich recycling centre a while back, but the chap there seemed to think it was only for clothes that could go to charity shops and wouldn't let me put anything else in there.

Sainsbury's car park has a skip for clothes/textiles.

From memory they request that you stick them in a poly bag...

i think scope on rye lane recycle clothes. there are also bins in choumert car park, outside mind AT goose green and maybe asda rye lane

I put my clean fabric scraps and worn out clothes in the clothing/textiles recycling banks because anything that can't be used in charity shops goes for 'ragging' I believe.

At the St Christopher's shop (big one) Lordship Lane they get money for donations not up to muster, as bulk sold 'rag bags' if you make it clear this is what the donation is, they still make money ;-))

there's a bin by Peckham Rye Cafe, outside the mind shop, Sainsbury's in New Cross and Forest Hill.

They usually suggest you bag the items and label it "RAGS" so that the shops don't have to search through it for useable stuff.

Great, thanks so much everybody. I'll check with st christophers before I descend on them with 3 bin bags. Either that or it'll go in one of the banks.
