Carseat advice

From a safety perspective I'm pretty sold on keeping our baby rear facing for as long as possible in his carseat, I had a britax multitech fitted yesterday, just slightly anxious about the loss of footwell space and how far forward the front passenger seat has to be... Has anyone gone down the rear facing at 9+kg route and have any thoughts? Any other seats that are worth looking at?
