Bic Basher
Tessa Jowell has been made a Dame in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18456061#TWEET160279 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23962-tessa-jowell-mp-made-a-dame/ Share on other sites

Jessie
Well done Tessa - she was brilliant a few years back when the school places crisis first hit - her and her office. DulwichFox
I remember her when she had true (Old)Labour principals.. Well at least she was able to convince me she did... That was back in the days when The Dulwich Labour Party (Grove Vale) held meetings in The Forresters Pub.. Fox. Alex K
Certainly washed her hands of her husband when he was tarred with the Berlusconi brush. "For better or for worse" -- same approach to marriage as to Old Labour principles: If they get in the way as you climb, jettison them and don't look back. Appropriate that her honour is handed her by a Tory government. the-e-dealer
Dumped him because he was damaging. Very sensible. And not without pain. Good on yet Tessa you deserve it. Penguin68
Appropriate that her honour is handed her by a Tory government. But it will be off the Labour list, and is almost certainly Olympics related. Bic Basher
I wonder with this accolade and the fact she could lose her seat in 2015 thanks to constituency boundary changes that she'll retire from politics? StraferJack
I'm confused - if you stick with an obviously corrupt influence it's BAD because you haven't got any principles (Cameron and Hunt say) but if you ditch an obviously corrupt influence it's BAD because your a careeristSeems a bit simplistic to me Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23962-tessa-jowell-mp-made-a-dame/#findComment-552789 Share on other sites
BrandNewGuy
It is indeed simplistic, as her 'ditching' wasn't as cut and dried as that word suggests. They were and are regularly seen out together, as a cursory Google will reveal... Cycnics might suggest that her 'ditching' was a politically motivated temporary expediency. Alex K
@BrandNewGuy: Guess I'm a cynic, then. TJ's career, personal / political, seems directed toward answering one question only: "What's in it for me?" Lynne
At one time she was the only London MP who didn't live in her constituency. the-e-dealer
Unlike all of them who lived in flats in Westminster and we paid for. uncleglen
She is a waste of space and I have first hand experience- she did more for her pal Anthony Gormless than she ever did for the ordinary people of East Dulwich. twofourseven
Got to say, well deserved. I had an issue here in East Dulwich in which my local councillor didn't do much, so I took the case to Tessa and the Chief Executive of Southwark Council. She worked hard for the Olympics and when I needed support, did so for me. Marmora Man
I'd be far more p****d off if Harriet Harperson was made a Dame. Now there is a truly undeserving case! Lynne
OK, if there are others who don't live on their patch I withdraw the "Only" part of it (incidently, being mistaken isn't quite the same as lying, e-dealer). And who are the others? But I hold to my point that an MP should live in their constituency. Can anyone explain why she shouldn't?Lynne Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23962-tessa-jowell-mp-made-a-dame/#findComment-553011 Share on other sites
