Pixies had some good tunes, but I hate the way people talk about them like they were something amazing... They're also one of those bands that a lot of people (and I don't mean you MP) like because they're the band to like, same as Stoned Roses, and that makes me like them less!
i-Pods i-Phones, and blackberries they seem to be everywhere. Every morning I commute into work and a scary number of passengers seem to depend on these things as if without them thier lives wouldn't be worth living or the world would end!!!

I do think it can depend, sometimes overseas travel is a bit naff, but I would love nothing more than to be going back to Australia, or Africa, or India, or many many other places right now!

Citizen, I agree RE Catherine Tate. I do think she's very clever, and has made some good characters, but they are all far too reliant on their catchphrases. Whereas the Fast Show used to have characters with catchphrases that would be used to support an otherwise still funny sketch, CT's sketches will more often than not be totally reliant on the delivery of the big catchphrase.

"What a f**king liberty"

"How very dare you"

"Am I bovvered"

And so on.

The Breeders are/were much better. Check out their old and new albums.

But is the Mighty Boosh over-rated in the first place? Don't know of many people who rate it - well Sean and Brendan claim to, but then....exactly. Harry Hill has been lauded all over and I've never found him very funny. Nevetheless I find him likable. Unlike Catherine Tate.

Re. The Pixies. As a teenager I got my hands on Trompe le Monde just after it was released. I had never heard anything like it. Within a week I had their entire back catalogue and became a bit obsessed with the band. So much so that I had to ration myself to only listen to 1 Pixies album a day.

In my opinion they were the most innovative of the underground American ?alternative? bands of the late 80s early 90s before the whole thing exploded into the monster that was Grunge.

You probably experienced it differently here as the whole thing was kinda overshadowed by Brit-pop. Or at least that is the impression I get.

Funnily I never liked the Stone Roses. I always thought they were overrated and I couldn?t see the point of 5 minute long intros. Over the last few months though there has been a ?best of? album on my ipod and I have actually started to get into them.

    • I was in Forest Hill Road today, just past the Rye, and noticed there is a dentist next to the Herne (pub) that has NHS signs outside. I've never had any problems getting NHS dental treatment in East Dulwich, and I get regular check ups. I've been to three  different dental practices here over the years, all with NHS treatment. I think the difficulties are in other parts of the country. Malumbu has a good explanation above. I didn't hear the Radio 4 programme, but I'm guessing that a  radio programme is not going to have time to say where you CAN easily get NHS treatment, and is bound to focus on the negatives and the horror stories, otherwise it would be very boring! ETA: Re children's teeth, I think the major issue is not lack of dentists, it is children being given sugary food, drinks and confectionery which rots their teeth. The education of parents needs to be about this, not just about tooth brushing. And in some cases the poor diet may also be due to lack of money for healthy food. Though of course the lack of dentists doesn't help, if  the tooth rotting can't be rectified by fillings or extraction.
    • Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.
    • Yes thanks that's exactly the choices I get.  I will block and if somehow they find a way back I'll report.
