I usually smell too badly to have much luck there....But take more Lynx Java than you need and you'll be alright.


If I go it will be my 7th time and thats a lucky number right? So it won't rain will it? Bollocks! I'll still be taking the wetsuit and flippers. Go armed to the teeth expecting swamp like conditions and you can only be pleasantly suprised.


The rumoured line up for this year does look a lot better. I would add to that, the rumour that The Boss may be taking the legends slot but who knows! Last years I only recall seeing one or two acts (Bjork and Arcade Fire) the rest of the time predictably spent in the Lost Vagueness casino drinking cava with a trannie.


In 2006 when they had a fallow year I compensated with trips to Coachella and Benicassim, both of which offered excellent weather but had none of that special atmosphere that you only get at proper British Glasto.

If you're planning on getting jiggy at Glasto, the first night (shower fresh) and the last night (beyond caring) are optimum. Friday is always asking for trouble as your nether regions are already 'on the turn' but your nose hasn't fully acclimatised to festival setting.


I believe the statistics (based on the number or free rubbers they dish out) bear this out. And if it rains, the jiggy-factor also shoots-up (so to speak) massively. So rain is not all bad news as there's a payoff in the legover department.

I'd have to disagree there, Mr Jah.


I think it reached its peak in the couple of years before the fence went up. The 100,000-odd gatecrashers (in addition to the 130,000 paying guests) really made it. Every morning there used to be 50,000 people sitting on hill, refusing to go to sleep for three days.

Nowadays most people scurry back to their beds so they can get-up bright and early, with little band timetables round their necks and their folding picnic chairs and thermos flasks at the ready.

That's exactly what I'm talking about Mr *Bob*. The spirit of Glasto is to wander around off yer tits and discover things for yourself. I didn't even have a tent the last time I went. Just turned up, found the cider tent, took shit loads of drugs and had a good time.

Indeed.

A lot of the gatecrashers were all the people who used to go in the days before it got so big - perhaps people like yourself. When the fence went up, the festival was left with a more humdrum element - ie those who were prepared (and could afford) to pay, and had broadband at home in order to get a ticket.


Of course, the fence had to go up. The last couple of years before it did were absolute madness. In a good way. But it just couldn't go on.


I think it's lost it's 'party' element to a certain degree. Maybe it just needs a healthy dose of sunshine to bring it back.

I think they should move it to a later date (or have they this year), as it is the most frequently washed out festival.


I'm more of a rock boy, and am gutted that a certain friend has chosen Reading weekend to get married in Ireland, as I'm missing Rage Against the Machine, The Killers, and Metallica as headliners, and all 3 are bands I really really like!


Sure I'll have a fab weekend in the Emerald Isle anyhoo! :)-D

We did something similar last year but we had about 10 of us talking on Skype from different locations, when eventually one person got through she bought her four tickets then pressed the back button and bought everyone else's etc etc. Worked like a treat. Tip: It's better to be at different locations with different internet connections in case something goes wrong.

Am going to Reading festival yay! (mind you tickets bit pricey!) am also going to Whitby festival 31st October. gona give Glastonbury a miss this year, got utterly drowned last year!

      In 2016 London City Airport began using concentrated flight paths. When there's a predominantly westerly wind, incoming aircraft approach from East London (north of the River). When there's a predominantly Easterly wind, incoming aircraft approach the airport from the West: circling through Forest Hill, Dulwich, Vauxhall, Tower Hamlets, Docklands. This latter flight path affects many of us in South East London. https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/london-city-airport-concentrated-flight-paths The planes going into City are often below 2,000 ft, so very noisy. Sometimes we have incoming Heathrow at the same time, flying higher. The early flights that I hear e.g. 04:30 are incoming to Heathrow. They are scheduled to land at 05:30 but are 'early'. Apparently the government allows a percentage of flights to arrive early and late (but these are now established as regular occurrences, informally part of the schedule). IMHO Londoners are getting very poor political representation on this issue. Incredible that if you want to complain about aircraft noise, you're supposed to contact the airport concerned! Preposterous and designed solely in favour of aviation expansion.

      Yet another recommendation for Jafar. Such a nice guy, really reliable and fair. He fixed a problem with our boiler and then incredibly kindly made two more visits to replace a different part at no extra cost.

      I didn't have any problems with plane noise until city airport started flying planes to and from about 5-8 minutes apart from 5.30 am or  6 am,  and even with ear plugs and double glazing I am woken at about 6 well before I usually would wake  up. I have lived here since 1986 and it is relatively recently that the planes have been flying far too low over East dulwich. I very much doubt that they are headinbg to Heathrow or from Heathrow. As the crow flies we are much , MUCH closer to City Airport than Heathrow or Gatwick. I even saw one flying so low you could see all the windows, when I was in Peckham Rye Park.
