Rye Lane is not a no go area. It has a thriving night time economy, Random crime can happen anywhere. Try leaving Lordship Lane occasionally.

I walk down Rye Lane frequently during the day. Its a Shite Hole. the place is derelict.

I would really like to know where all these marvellous Bars and Restaurants are ?

Are you referring to McDonalds, KFC, of one of the other Fried Chicken places. ? Plenty of those.

There is no evidence of these places during the day.

Certainly no Bars/Pubs open during the day.

Perhaps they are hidden behind all the Graffiti covered shutters.

No Indian Restaurant apart from Ganapati ?? If you like sharing a bench with 6 - 8 other people

No Chinese , Italian , French.

There is a reasonable Turkish that does not sell alcohol BYO

I do not see the point of going to Peckham if you live in East Dulwich.

Oh FFS, no it isn't.

But then not so long ago you posted on here saying you would not walk anywhere near the Gowlett at night.

Get a grip!

Have you actually been to Peckham in the last few years, Dulwich Fox?

ETA: Oh, I see you say above that you go there frequently. Do you walk about with your eyes closed???

Its a shame the pint glass didn't 'slip' out of your hand and shatter on the skull of the little thief.

There are lots and lots of these in Peckham. They are badly brought up scum of the earth, and will likely have a life of in and out of prison to look forward to.

Saying that, Rye Lane is hardly a 'no go area'. Its a complete dump (although it gets considerably worse the closer you get to Peckham High Street) but hardly unsafe. My biggest gripe is actually trying to walk through it which is very difficult due to incredibly slow moving, large people with nothing better to do than stand around a grim high street blocking the paths and roads.

Dulwich Fox, I'm afraid you are talking utter nonsense, Peckham is no worse than any other area in south London, there are loads of decent restaurants on Bellenden Rd, Choumert Rd ranging from tapas to Thai street food, Dim Sum, Italian, good burger joints as well as the Bussey building, Frank's Cafe, Peckham Springs, Brick Brewery closer to and on Rye Lane...I could go on. So do try not to let your snobbery get the best of you, it's unbecoming and unfounded.

...sure you're not thinking of Lordship Lane? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-49370364

The Gowlett is part of Peckham even if they think its in East Dulwich.

Do you walk around (On you own) late at night in Peckham ?? Do You ?

Have you been Mugged and knocked unconscious. ? Have you ?

Get a grip ???

I supposed anyone out and about 'Pissed up' is going to be totally oblivious to any danger.

My House is not worth ?1,000,000.

My House cost me ?88,000 back in 1996

There are six houses of my type one sold recently for ?640,000

The houses cost ?70 each in 1887 when they were built and the rent was ?5 per year.

I would happily take ?750,000 for my house.

Yes. I am sitting in my House.

Its the third working day sitting in waiting in for Dulwich Medical Centre to call me about a medical condition

that they say requires serious medical attention.

DF

And I do live my life. I go out EVERY night eating or drinking.

I have done more or less for the last 50 years. I stay in 2 or 3 nights a month.

If that's been your lifestyle for the last 50 years, then the medical condition you refer to is probably either morbid obesity or Type-2 diabetes.

Your snobbery is still showing and getting worse, I'm expecting some casual racism in a minute...what a sour, unpleasant person you are.

I have to say that I do take exception at Rye Lane being labelled a s****hole. Surely DulwichFox must realise that a considerable number of forum users live on Rye Lane or in the immediate vicinity? Is that really what this forum is for - slagging off each other's areas? Wouldn't sympathy for the original poster, perhaps with thanks for the warning etc. would be a more normal response?

Peckham has been fine to me at night (I?m a 30 something female who feels perfectly safe heading home alone during the day or v late at night after being out.)Lived there 5 years now after moving from East Dulwich (which my mum refers to as East DULLwich as she found it boring, she loves going down the lane and getting cocktails from Peckham Springs and Bar Story we?ve even staggered home at 11pm alone - she?s from Wiltshire so her first trip to Peckham was an eye opener or her! )

Agree the lane doesn?t look great but there are lots of good places to eat. Admittedly you have to look for them.

Try the restaurants on the triangle (Nigel road) bus stop - Peddler, Bahn Bahn etc and the White Horse is a great pub which although gentrified still managed to keep its regulars and attract the gentrification crowd.

Peckham has changed a lot in the last 5 years I?ve been here. Perhaps start with going for Sunday lunch?

I can recommend Forza Win for amazing Italian food which is great on a Sunday.

Agree their could be more Indian restaurants (but I?ll go back to ED for them). Although there is Asian Take & Away under the arches at Peckham rye station (right hand side as you come from ED) - they make their own naans and the curry is great and cheap as chips

The Motown coffee man in the starvation is a legend and does great coffee

JohnL good you are ok and still have your phone- shame your pint didn't go over him!

Thanks for raising awareness too. It's nice to sit in the window of John Unicorn and enjoy a drink in the sun. Same can be said for Meatliquor on Lordship. I hadn't thought about the potential for belongings to be snatched and of course this is just as likely on Lordship as it is on Rye Lane.

I love Peckham and Rye Lane. Has been less pleasant with the recent major road works but otherwise it's a bustling high street that has so far avoided gentrification (not that I'm cussing out Lordship.....there is space for both and diversity is a positive thing).

I particularly like Rye Lane on a Sunday when people are out in their national dress for church and there can be singing and gospel music heard.

I'll say it again- I welcome diversity.

I have done in the past, and I would do it again.

When I'm walking alone at night anywhere in London (or indeed, anywhere) I would be aware of what was going on around me.

> Have you been Mugged and knocked unconscious. ?

No. What's that got to do with it?

My sister was mugged and her hand slashed with a knife. About forty years ago. In broad daylight. On a crowded street in Central London, if memory serves.

These things can happen anywhere.

If you are referring to me, I don't walk around alone "pissed up" (what a very strange expression).

ETA: Belated sympathy to JohnL, and glad you are OK.

But the bigger losers will be Americans who expect industry to move their factories to America, provide jobs and revive the economy, 20 years ago that could have happened but since then most factory jobs can now be done by robots  including warehouse movements, and if a tech company is going to build a new factory they will obviously use robotics and maybe AI to do the work, which means a gluten of goods and no one with the cash to buy them.  America will go into another depression and take the rest of the world with it. Forget the issues Liz Truss and Rachel Reeves combined have caused the economy, the trump tarrifs will make them look like saints by comparison.
