sonla
Please be aware, one of our neighbours was nearly caught by this last weekend- in Adys road, off Goose green. This is an eldery vulnerable woman who had a man try to barge into her house to sell fencing. Please look after your neighbours , confront people who you dont know at their door , ask for ID (this chap walked away when asked) and call the police.Sonia Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23423-attempted-distraction-burgulary/ Share on other sites
Mrs TP
Well done you for acting so quickly and intervening. There is so much of this going on everyone needs to be vigilant and aware for themselves and for vulnerable neighbours. Thanks for the reminder. Gidget
Does your neighbour have a spy hole and a door chain? Too many trusting people, esp. elderly, open their doors without checking who it is first, even in the daytime. If you aren't expecting anyone, then don't open the door, esp. if you are elderly, on your own, or disabled. chauveau
I've had some young guys ringing on my bell claiming to be collecting for Battersea Dogs Home Charity this week, they didint seem too convincing at all. Anyone else had them call by? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23423-attempted-distraction-burgulary/#findComment-544061 Share on other sites
Worker
Yep. I offered them an on-the-spot donation and they refused as they said it was against the rules, so I assume they were genuine. Didn't seem dodgy to me, but then I'm notoriously soft. That's the Con. They do not want a single payment they want you to sign up for what is Called a Continuous Payment Authority, it works like a direct debit but can't be cancelled by your bank. Or by You. Only the organisation receiving the payments can do it - and that's not always easy.. Read Here Foxy.. the-e-dealer
No you can cancel a Continuous Payment Authority. 2 Banks got the rules wrong but have now been put right. 2008 Finance act I believe. Sonners
I had the Battersea Dog collectors as well and and soon as I declined on the basis that I give to the Dog's Trust they said no problem, to have a look at the website if I ever changed my mind who to support and various similar things so they came across as fairly genuine to me, if a bit pushy initially, but then i find all doorstep chuggers like that! Vixster250
HiHeard that one of our elderly neighbours had an attempted distraction burgulary on lordship lane today. Two men claiming there had been a leak in the upstairs flat that needed investigating.Luckily she didnt let both men in and so all ok.Seems like they may target more vulnerable people - please be vigilant.
