Suppose some would - though despite what I posted above most I think have genuine and laudable concerns over their own children's future, and others'. If that by chance benefits everyone that's a good thing. The buggers that get my goat most though are the ones who take time off work, take their kids off school and then book return flights to Umbria... as if attending a demo will somehow compensate for their flight pollution.

For those of us that can't attend the protests, or for those that don't want to - and anyone else really - I find it amazing that the average Joe should pay for the Met to be sued. If there's a way the government alone should fork out for this! Seems to me that the demonstrators' intent to cripple the police and disable emergency vehicles is "just fine" even when it means other people suffer. There's breaking the law to make a point but what will their next tactic be - flying planes into buildings?

Woah there, flying planes into buildings? I'm not sure if this is deliberate trolling/disinformation and I'm sure most people will know this already but XR is NON-VIOLENT, this is an absolutely fundamental principle. This suggestion seems intentionally inflammatory and scare-mongering. Also there is no disabling of emergency vehicles, they are always allowed to pass through roadblocks when on emergency lights.

One other thing, if the police are spending more time on XR protests than they are on fighting crime that people think is more important, well, why is that? The police make a choice about what they are prioritising, why are they *choosing* not to deal with those more important criminal activities instead of chasing activists around and arresting them for transporting a gazebo? And XR didn't force the police to introduce a blatantly dodgy blanket protest ban and leave themselves vulnerable to legal action, they made that bad decision themselves, get cross at their leaders! And FWIW I haven't actually heard anyone in XR talk about suing the police, and all the articles I've seen only said that they *could* do not that they intended to, but I may be proved wrong on that in time. But anyway, surely upholding our right to protest should be celebrated and defended, I'd have thought.

the article is rubbish

in fact based reporting:

"A global group of around 11,000 scientists have endorsed research that says the world is facing a climate emergency." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-50302392

are these 11,000 experts from more than 150 countries virtue signalling lefties too? or is possible that they might actually know something about it?

Completely agree that the world is facing a climate emergency - and has been for a long time. There's little point in hoping that a conventional spike in temperature is simply the prelude to another ice age. If that's the case would there still be any point in turning Earth to waste? I think the scientists are right, but I think turning up for demos in and out using nuclear power, oil, flying, buying junk from the far east which is brought in on giant tankers, eating avocados (excessive water usage) - all this just isn't balanced by grinding the capital to a halt. Most of the protestors are not living off-grid, which is proper and positive rebellion.

of course they're not, just as you're not even tho the crisis impacts you as much as it does them

Correct - although I am making more an effort year on year!

Springtime, I'm curious to know if you see yourself and others as being part of a positive, proper rebellion by moving towards living off grid. You seem to be able to recognise a personal effort to do this, so why can't you recognise other peoples efforts to move towasrd a different way of living. Your assumptions of how people live and your inability to acknowledge the changes that need to come outside of your own life results in your comment about flying planes into buildings, albeit you were probably taking the piss.

Living off-grid is hardly going to get the message across to people who can actually make the big changes.

Sue, I believe they are are connected, many of the laws challenged around living off grid is a result of people recognising change. And hopefully it will be made easier for people to have more say on decisions around energy, home emissions and positive changes in there everyday life.

Springtime Actions taken today may help your year on year efforts.

Sorry another link, dont know how to link more than 1.

I have just been told that during a phone in on the radio yesterday a woman said that her daughter has decided that she is never going to have children because of the climate problem...I wonder how many other young people are totally freaked out by the irresponsible actions of this crazy group- yes crazy-

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7656891/Extinction-Rebellion-fanatic-branded-neighbour-hell-turning-750k-London-home-shrine.html

A former electrician, (probably lost his livelihood after Blair let in the East Europeans- that's how my electrician relative lost his job as he could not compete with ?20 a day workers living 15 to a house) but notice that before he lost his job- and his marbles it would seem- he had a nice little car! AND I bet he flew everywhere on holiday....

It's ok. I sympathise with the cause, but there are some big hypocrites out there and others willing to cause havoc, which doesn't help at all. I also worry that some impassioned yet very short-sighted activists will eventually reach the point of committing atrocities - hopefully a planes and buildings comment will remain forever ironic...

The comment about flying planes into buildings is obviously sarcasm if you bothered to read it properly katanita....SpringTime just took their tactics to the Extreme...btw someone renamed them Exhibitionism Rebellion

Spring Time, havoc is happening every day from our government whose decisions create turmoil and worse. Yes there are worst countries to live in, but that doesn't mean nothing to people who have endured pain brought on through systems that do not work. Whilst the usual untouchable offenders, carry on, business as usual. I've never known in my life a time where so many people young and old who feel cheated and unable to do anything about. People looking forward to retiring after working all there life told, oh 6 yrs more, young people unable to get a job that would cover rent and travel.Havoc, i'm happy to see the energy mustered up against the havoc thats been and still being caused.

Uncle Glen, love it, taking in a homeless man, theres more than a cover story, im not making little of neighbours concerns but heh its the same old media, telling a story of how awful it is for the people, no solutions except hassling people for a story and encouraging distance between people. What is there job, telling stories, news, breeding contempt, ???

So what do you think of the 11,000 scientists from more than 150 countries calling out a climate emergency?

They?re just exhibitionists too?

And just you and the Donald and fact-phobic his mates have got it right?

Or can you accept that there?s a genuine issue and that campaigners are rightly trying to raise the profile?

You so often manage to tie in an unrelated bit of racism whilst ranting about something else. Awful.

Racism...lol...typical libtard comment when you don't like the actual truth and actual FACTS about the impact of the flood of east european 'tradesmen' in many areas of the UK....analyse the Leave votes in England- that will tell you where the impact was- not in the blinkered enclave of East Dulwich

Does anyone live anywhere in England where they can call an English electrician, have them turn up when they say they would, get a reasonable quote and then have them complete the job to satisfaction?

Because I?ve lived in several different parts of engkand, have friends in many Leave voting cities, and none of us can rely on English tradespeople.

Now if we were being ?flooded? you would think the natives could at least raise their game enough to show up. But seemingly not

Uncle is spouting his usual array of abuse - the sort which I thought wouldn?t be allowed on here tbh - and the gets even more abusive when called on it (?libtard?. Seriously. I?ve said it before. Get this man?s hard drive to the police and we would never see him walk the streets again. That he teaches/taught children is frightening)

Define safe space CM

No one benefits from the shite that pours from glen on here. And it contravenes several of the terms and conditions we all sign up to. He spouts his shite, I say he shouldn?t be allowed to get away with it and yet your beef is with me?

You don't seem to understand the concept of a personal opinion. Not everyone shares yours. That's life, like it or lump it, but you can't accuse someone of being a criminal for calling you a "libtard". The insults go both ways. Not everyone who votes leave is a "racist", hates diversity or is a lobster who enjoys too many pints at a football match and cheap holidays at a family resort in Spain.

Furthermore, you're not native to the UK and you're insulting English trades people. How does that make you any better than Uncle? Specially when yours is from personal experience, not a fact. You've just insulted every English trades person.

Freya

I?m not disagreeing with glens ?opinion? on this thread. He has for years spouted racist garbage on here

You then go off on a weird diversion about all leave voters. I don?t know why. Perhaps you could clarify

Then it gets interesting. You seem keen to point out I?m not native - how does this signify anything?

Then you claim I insult English tradespeople. I haven?t. I merely pointed out they don?t usually respond well from initial quote go job completion. They usually cite ?very busy? or ?jobs too small?. That?s their look out

I bring it up not as an insult but merely to point out it doesn?t tally with glen?s bogus ?floods of immigrants have driven them out of business? nonsense

If that?s insulting every English trades person I would like to know how

What I said was ?have a look at the contents of his hard drive and you wouldn?t see him again?

Which means he has exposed enough of his weird mentality on here to make me think it?s tip of the iceberg stuff.

I didn?t say he should be reported to the police because of what he says on here alone

    • Looking for a celebrity impersonator for a party or any good companies any one knows, please let me know!!
    • That’s another big hike on the Sainsbury’s mini rolls! I spoke to one of the managers on the day of the anchovies price rise but all he could say was that his store doesn’t set the prices. Very vague and not helpful. i started this thread about price rises in  Sainsbury’s and it’s somehow being blamed on Brexit etc!
    • And the Sainsbury’s own brand chocolate mini rolls have gone from £1.15 to £1.40 overnight, so 22%-ish. I prefer them them to the Cadbury original because they have a lot more chocolate on them, presumably because they’re made in a less advanced factory. I would think that getting the Rizla thin coating of chocolate that Cadbury’s accountants demand onto a piece of sponge is quite a sophisticated operation. Discuss.
    • Another recommendation for Leon. He was able to come out to our electrical elergency within 24 hours of me contacting him. His communication was great and whilst he could not solve our problem, he was able to perform tests to identify this and did so quickly and efficiently. He charging  is very fair and his manner very pleasant. Both of these in contrast to some experiences I have had elsewhere.    happy to put my name to recommending Leon. His number is  07707 925039.
