Jeremy, I stand by my analogy.

Otta, I'm not going to trawl the forum for evidence for you. It's what I feel.

I assume the post above is what you feel? I didn't ask for evidence to support your view.

Now we have both said what we feel. What a great forum.

To be honest, my post was not intended to be sneering at Iceland or at anyone who goes to Iceland - it was more driven by how irritated I get at the ridiculous reverse snobbery trotted out by Louisa and one or two others on here about Iceland and M&S/Waitrose(as well as so many other entities).

Louisa does it to flame. It clearly works.

Nice bit of passive aggression there.

How so? I was telling you that Louisa likes to wind people up. Your responses to her show that she's having some level of sucess, hemnce the fact she's currently banned from the main section.

And to yeknomyeknom I was just saying that I don't think that (maybe Louisa aside) there is the same level of anti M&S/Waitrose, as there is nasty comments about Iceland. I have no problem with people wanting something other than Iceland, it's the vitreol that SOME have poured over Iceland customers that I think is pretty unpleasant.

I would like to see Iceland stay but happy to see M&S/Waitrose replace the Co-op.

The Co-op supposedly the People's supermarket is hardly what it set out to be when established in 1844.

It's dreadful in there, expensive. Apart from the many items on or near their Best By / Use By dates..

Let's keep Iceland and ditch The Co-op

DulwichFox

I think most of the comments against Iceland have been along the lines of ?the food is disgusting and the shop is an eyesore? rather than, ?only gross poor people shop at Iceland so let?s close it down.? I?m not saying the former sentiment is correct (I?ve never been to Iceland but I?ve learned on this thread the store has good veg and cheap dairy apparently!) but it?s not really sneering at the costumers either.

I also agree the reverse snobbery comments along the lines of ?only people with more money than sense committed to social cleansing of working class Dulwich? were primarily trolling / wind-ups.

I?m glad it?s an M&S rather than a Waitrose. I like Waitrose and would happily shop at one but ultimately it?s more of a generic supermarket. M&S is more special occasion picnic food, fancy snacks etc which at least is some variety compared to the other supermarkets already in the area. I get their single serving salads all the time from Waterloo so this will be much more convenient.

Louis PMd me the links to the updated planning documents that were posted last month. Haven?t read them but it certainly suggests things are moving forward.

LondonMix, please do share the link on the updated planning documents (I can't see anything new on the Southwark website relating to the application reference that was granted last year). PS - If Louisa is going to PM useful information of this sort, is it perhaps time to reconsider the decision to 'Lounge' her?

That would probably be the ideal outcome... the Co-op is poorly stocked, inferior quality food (IMO), and isn't cheap - hard to see any advantages. But unfortunately it is hard for local residents to influence such things.

I like some of the stuff in Iceland and I think some of it is garbage, I think the Co-op is having an identity crisis but I like the staff at both shops and when I can't be arsed to go to Lidl or Sainsburys they're fine.

If they were replaced by M&S, Waitrose, Aldi, etc etc I'm guessing the same shit would apply. As long as we don't end up with a Tescos or Morrisons.*

Asda would be okay too.

*Why should they be left out of the furore?

Co-Op's own brand food is a shocker. My young son was eating a sausage roll (one of his favourite things) from there the other day and was spitting bits out saying it had pips in it. I had to inform staff of little nibbles in all the bags of popcorn and in lots of the bread wrappers. Clearly a mouse problem. It's grim.

Not convinced that M&S replacing Iceland and Waitrose replacing Co-op really is the "best of both worlds".

I thought we were constantly being told that people rely on Iceland because they can't afford to shop elsewhere, and are unable to get to Peckham?

I agree. I think it's good to have a variety of shops to suit all pockets. I for one wish we could still have an Iceland & if I had a magic wand I'd put it where Foxton's is.

I think in this instance, its the size of the premises. Most agents have small office and Foxtons space is one of the few larger units that could actually accommodate a business that needs something that size for operational efficiency and can't open here as a result.

Also, of the various agents Foxton has the worst reputation for aggressive tactics and dishonesty... (just saying)
