Michael Palaeologus
There is an M&S on the Walworth Road, but a 15 minute bus road away. East Dulwich should adopt the Indian Restaurant Local Delivery Policy.. of 3 mile Radius. That would mean that M&S on the Walworth Road would technically be in the East Dulwich Local Area. Millhaven
I have obviously been out of the area too long, I had forgotten about the M&S on Walworth Road. So why on earth would someone travel to Beckenham if there is a two stores far closer? 3 including Lewisham. LondonMix
Also, why do people think a small format Simply M&S is going to bring hoards of people in driving from far and wide when there are already loads of them nearby (and bigger ones to boot).... Can understand a Waitrose possibly making a more dramatic impact. tomk
Have Waitrose signed the lease yet? Or M&S agreed to take the site not as wanted?Or are we all in fact staring at another empty unit come January? Callie
I like Iceland. I find it very useful for part of my regular shopping so I hope it stays. Louisa
Brilliant documentary about Iceland on BBC2 last night. Despite a lot of the snobbery aimed at them, they are very strict on where their food is sourced from and what goes into each product, as well as being good value for money. They also do quite a lot of positive things for their staff as anyone who watched last nights documentary will have noticed. I'm now thinking maybe we should do more to support them staying on LL by shopping there more regularly, rather than opting for the unknown. Louisa. Louisa
Tried and trusted formula MM. Bejams/Iceland have been on LL for nearly 30 years, and I've always loved them. They serve a large proportion of the local population and if we all supported them it would guarantee we don't end up with an empty retail spot on the high street, something none of us want. The M&S/Waitrose thing has gone on too long, let's just forget about them. Louisa. Millhaven
I can't be bothered to scroll through all the posts, but there is a chap that always gives rather long, wordy and (if I may say so) slightly pompous posts. Just one post from him should take us over the ghastly 49 page plateau. Mugglesworth
If the shop ends up as a Waitrose or M&S, won't this encourage Lycra-clad louts to cycle there on the pavements in contravention of the law?(Now, that should stimulate the elevation to the big 5-0) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23403-revised-new-ms-planning-application-to-replace-iceland/page/59/#findComment-690539 Share on other sites
