falcao
OK Now I know this is probably going to put a few noses out of joint, but here goes. I hate kids in pubs ! There I said it and it feels good. Don't get me wrong I like kids. In fact I've got a couple of the little buggers. But I must say my heart sinks when I go into a pub for a nice quiet pint with my newspaper only to be confronted with screaming and howling kids. I know East Dulwich is trying to be all continental and every one always bangs on about how they love kids on the continent blah blah blah, but please landlords, don't ban travellers, ban kids. The worst culprit is the Dog in the Village. They've got an area for kids yet the LOVELY LITTLE THINGS still seem to invade the bit where I'm drinking. Not only that but the parents sit there with a smug look on their face thinking we all love the site of their offspring hutling around like nutters. Bellenden Belle
Yawn yawn yawn. There are numerous threads echoing your sentiments - have a search. I don't know - next you'll be starting a "I hate Foxtons" thread; or a "why is East Dulwich so middle class" thread. Please guys - let's make 2008 the year we become a little more original in our thoughts. BJL
So - based on your post earlier today in this thread - How about mixed domestic duties. It's a great activity which is inclusive for both men and women. Here's how it works. The women stay at home and wash up and make the dinner whilst the men go down the pub. It's an old sport but I'm hopeful its making a comeback.you think that the only people who should go to pubs are men? Brendan
Reminds me of a verse out of a satirical South African poem that goes thusly:He disappears into the ladies bar He?s never seen againWhere women flash their thighs at you And drink beside the men (A brilliant little poem that has the unique distinction of being banned by both the previous and current South African governments.) Domitianus
Can someone please explain something to me? About six months or so back there were a couple of posts along these lines on this forum and I seemed (with a few occasional exceptions) to be the only person making this type of point about kids running amok in public places. Consequently I spent several weeks on the receiving end of frequently extremely vicious and hysterical posts that left me picking daggers out of my back most of the time. Now, however, it seems that it is the most popular theme on the site (apart from lost pets, of course) and everyone who was silent on this issue is coming out of the woodwork and saying "Me too, I hate noisy kids in public places" Where the h**l were you all months ago when I seemed to be the sole voice arguing for a bit of consideration and parental restraint?????? atila the gooner
I like the idea of kids being barred from pubs, as I've already said on another thread. The idea of pubs being Family Friendly is a modern concept which seems to be popular in the more gentrified areas of London populated by well heeled, 4x4 drivers. Yeeeuch!!!! Cassius
I think there should be choice - some pubs child friendly and some child free - and NOT just the Wetherspoon types - I also think the same about smoking and non-smoking pubs and I am a non-smoker. Brendan
I was never alowd in pubs until I was old enough to sneak out and go to them myself. But I did grow up in a very different world to East Dulwich. barrymarshall
and that's pretty good mix of types of boozer too, so it's not like people are restricted in their choice of child-free watering holes, if that is what they desire. *Bob*
There are worse things in pubs which should be banned first.Personally I can't stand walking into a pub only to be confronted by a wall of slacked-jawed, glassy-eyed zombies gazing silently at a giant screen and then bursting as one into a huge neanderthal roar as some overpaid ponytailed idiot kicks a ball somewhere or other. Possibly between posts. But then I just avoid these places. Job done.
