If you want a day away, Bailiffscourt Hotel and Spa at Climping (south coast, near Littlehampton) is nice - you can get to it by train from Victoria, so a non-drive option. It's by the coast so you can go for a walk by the sea. The spa treatments are lovely. And there's an outdoor pool as well as an indoor one.

The hotel is nice too with a good restaurant so a good one for a real break from the kids.

I haven't personally visited either (unfortunately) but I bet the spas at either Coworth Park or Syon Park are top notch. The latter prob just under an hour's drive from Dulwich, Coworth perhaps slightly further?

For something in central London, I hear the Espa spa at The Corinthia is 4 floors of amazingness: http://www.espalifeatcorinthia.com/

Rowhill combined with a trip to Bluewater, perfect. Rowhill is half an hour and another world away, closest one I know of. Or check out the spas at the big London hotels- Dorchester, mandarin iriental type places if time is short and money no object

    • But in many cases the leaks are happening in the same places again and again, and every inch of pipe outside the Horniman on the South Circular must have been replaced at least 3 times in the last 15 years! Of course the infrastructure in some areas is old, but locally there's been quite a bit of replacement. To little effect it would seem.
    • Thank you, Pugwash. That's really useful information. Do you know who was responsible for the locks and keys, or which council department? Could you PM me if you don't want to put someone's personal details on here?  It may save me having to speak to Monica. Thanks.
    • Does anybody know why? Trees aren't cut down for no reason. There must have been something wrong with it (I hope that was the reason). A child was recently killed and another one injured when a tree fell in a park (not in this area). It isn't always obvious from the outside when a tree is diseased or whatever, and I imagine the council would give safety considerations priority when deciding what to do, if there was any doubt at all.
    • It looks like they have cut it down completely now 😭
