We?ve received an invitation through the door to join nextdoor.co.uk through our door with a code for East Dulwich. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this?

I went online but the website says it will display my full name and address on there, which I?m not very comfortable with.

I also wonder what the advantage of using nextdoor would be, given that we already have the ED Forum?

Any feedback gratefully received !

Next Door has been promoted by the Met and what I gathered at a police meeting that you need to register your address etc but this is to clarify that you are a genuine resident. Your details should not be publicised. I wonder if this is a scam website ? Check with your ward SNT officer - details from Met Police website.

Nextdoor is a legitimate company. There is a page about them here on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nextdoor

Its registration process is onerous: They require:

Postcode,

first line of address,

email address,

mobile phone number

For first line of street address, they wish to confirm it via either a phone call to your mobile or a postcard sent to your address. There is a note saying "We'll automatically mail you a verification postcard if we can't confirm your address another way." I wonder if someone might have created an account and given your address and you have just received said postcard after a while.

    • Not sure why air quality came into discussion on this thread.  There are a few houses on the opposite side of the road closish to the South Circ (they all have longish front gardens).  The low level blocks of flats are set a fair way from the roads (LL and Dulwich Common).  A few other houses are on the opposite side of the road going towards Forest Hill.  It's not a densely populated area.  As said pollutant emissions from motor vehicle have reduced due to tougher standards, particularly since the VW cheating scandal when test procedures are far closer to the real world and can no longer be got round. The Mayor should also be congratulated for extending the ULEZ.  People tend to think about the outer boroughs but previously the boundary was within the North and South Circs so any old vehicle could use these roads. Anyway, just pointing out.  Not that material for the Grove Tavern.
    • But there are loads of flats next to it, and loads of houses opposite it? What would you call " not many people"?
    • Not 100% sure but I think charity shops do t pay corporation taxes .do t get charged vat on the goods they sell.also get between 60/70% rates reduction not sure about rents.
    • I was sure I had replied to this, but I must have dreamed it! I googled Victus and Bibo and found a reference to them on this  forum from years ago 😮
