I wouldn't bother with the classes- I just walked out on one after a grown woman came in late and claimed I had taken her spot- this was on top of the fact that I booked on the basis of thinking the class was a circuits class only to barely hear a comment from the instructor that 'circuits no longer exist'......so just be aware there is now a system at Dulwich where you have to urinate on equipment to mark your spot and take a chance on what class you'll actually end up in....all on top of the fact that the classes are clickier than anything I've seen in a while- spend your time in a more positive welcoming environment or learn to urinate in public
I use this leisure centre alot and I'm sorry you had this experience. I think they follow their schedule.. possibly you had an old time chart. I can't imagine why the instructor would let anyone claim a spot. I've never expereinced anything like that and I guess I'd just laugh at them and their pomposity. What happens sometimes is a person puts a mat down and sets up a space and then goes out for whatever reason. Could it have been that this person was returning to a mat previously laid out? In any event, I can pick bones with the best of them but in this instance I think you should double check that you have the right schedule and then book your class and stand your ground. I might very well be there and if I hear such silliness I'll back you up.

You're right, maybe we should stop going there, unfortunately a few people quitting membership probably isn't going to make a difference. I went to sign my son up for swimming lessons on Monday and stood in queue for 3 hours! It was so disorganised.

    • I would check that you have in fact been switched over to paying on usage rather than the old fixed rate system with an annual increase. We had a meter installed 18 months ago but had to request paying on metered consumption.
    • Does anyone know if the above is taking place this year. Can't seem to find it mentioned anywhere?   Simon
    • Hello, with the weather improving, I thought I would flag up the free access to leisure centres in southwark. 1. If you are experiencing poor mental and physical health and live in the borough, the GP exercise referral service allows up to three months of free use of leisure centers. There are three levels of support, and you can even refer yourself. read more for more info: Kickstart, Active Boost and Cardiactive - Everyone Health Southwark   2. If you don't have challenges with physical ands mental health, you can access the free swim and gym for a year. for more info: Free swim & gym eligibility requirements – Leisure Facilities in Southwark 3. Are you a blue badge holder? you can apply for the AD Permit, a virtual payment which allows disabled drivers to part on single and double yellow lines without the need of displaying a blue bae in the windscreen. there is also information for disabled residents to use the Low Traffic Neighborhood (LTNs) around the borough.  Exemptions for Blue Badge holders | Southwark Council Want more information? use the councils website: www.southwark.gov.uk
    • I am about to tomorrow. I only just realised after asking some neighbours today. Agreed that smaller households should of course pay less, like discounted council tax bills for those on benefits for example. However as our bills have gone up astronomically generally in the last few years, I do feel hardworking families are being penalised... also avid gardeners will be penalised in the summer when gardens are watered no doubt.
