OD
Just to let you know that I had a great burger from GBK this afternoon for lunch and my two lunch mates also agreed that it was delious!I wouldn't have recommended them before, but after today's meal I think I'll make more of an effort to go there. Another recommendation, a little out of ED, I'd suggest Grand Union pub in Camberwell. DirtyBox
My all time favourite so far is Hache, there's one in Clapham High Street. I think they are French so you can wash it down with some Normandy cider...pisses all over GBK! Jeremy
GBK may not be the best burger ever, but it seems to be just about the only nomination we have which is actually "in the area"... DirtyBox
Maybe someone should define "the area"? Clapham is well within mine....especially if I want a burger Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23201-best-burger-in-the-area/page/4/#findComment-541329 Share on other sites
Jeremy
Clapham isn't really much closer than central London (and harder to get to on public transport).I would describe "the area" as East Dulwich and the immediately adjoining areas (West Dulwich, Dulwich Village, Peckham Rye, Nunhead, Forest Hill, Honor Oak, Herne Hill, Camberwell/Denmark Hill). titch juicy
it seems a similar question was featured on the telegraph website today, and while it's hardly the most revealing piece, it just so happens that two mentioned here are worthy of a mentionhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/in-the-know/london-dining/9234819/london-burger-restaurants.html Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23201-best-burger-in-the-area/page/4/#findComment-541365 Share on other sites
Horsebox
Tried the 'Poke' burger in The Draft House and can highly recommend it.Juicy & slightly messy, it comes with a chilli kick, a slice of old Amsterdam cheese and a couple of onion rings inside too.Definitely raising the bar for burgers in the area. I could have done with more chipotle but it has to be said the burger was moist, smoky and delicious with a proper bun (the kind that is made in the same way you make a bagel so it doesn't disintegrate when it gets steamy) and EITHER chips or fries (good point). A very good local burger imho. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23201-best-burger-in-the-area/page/4/#findComment-541382 Share on other sites
katie1997
titch juicy - Lucky Chip are opening a place in Soho called Slider Bar.And MeatMarket opens soon in Covent Garden. Same people behind Meatliquor but the venue style is more that of fast food joint rather than restaurant. There's a new app called burgerapp which is released tomorrow, I think - all about where to go for good burgers in London.PS god knows why but a good burger is just fab. Deffo to do with the cheese, bun, burger combo. And gherkin. But never, ever bacon on top. Sadly, billions and billions served later, it was watered down to the facsimile of a proper burger, McD's sell now. It's the buns I don't like in McD's though. Be interesting to see how it's done, cos i love the gothic, deep south feel of meatliquor. charliemcveigh
Thanks so much for the lovely feedback...we are v proud of our Hamburger Specials and just a quite word also for the Yolk (sister to the Smoke & Poke - an 80z char-grilled burger w/ a flat fried egg and glazed Hollandaise) We do (or at least we are supposed to) include fries or chips with our Hamburger Monday specials.
