*Bob*
I agree on the chickens thing. That's just silly talk. But making bread requires less expertise than wiping your bum. (I presume Alan gets an expert in for that as well) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2317-breadmakers/#findComment-67160 Share on other sites
Alan Dale
The breadmaker is the classic back of the cupboard wedding gift.Nothing wrong with making bread by hand but there's no need to make it in a ?120 alarm clock.EDA - do your parents live next door to Penelope Keith? Travelimo
I second *Bob*'s recommendation; we've had a panasonic sd255 for about 6 months and haven't bought bread, bread rolls or pizza bases during that time. It's extremely easy to use, in fact we probably don't get the best out of it as do tend to stick to the same old recipes (wholemeal bread/bread rolls). Flour, yeast etc can all be bought in SMBS foods - the dove farms organic range is the best flour we've found. The machine is quite large and heavy so does take up a fair bit of bench space when in use (3-4 times a week); but this is easily sorted if you've got a cupboard to store it in when not making bread. Alan Dale
Maybe you could flog a ditty or two.Seriously though. Bakery is a highly skilled profession -ask the NAMB.The fact that no ne uses their breadmakers more than twice is testament to the abject failure of hot point et al to automate this ancient profession. lozzyloz
I disagree Alan. Surely the Pasta Maker takes pride of dusty place in the back of the cupboard closely followed by the centrifugal juicer. Alan Dale
Pasta maker, ice cream maker, espresso maker, blank or blanks makerAnyone who still usess their bread maker a year after the wedding is either ridiculously stubborn, frugal or undiscerning. Brendan
I read somewhere the smoothie makers were the appliance most likely to never be used. Although I use mine quite a lot. Not for smoothies however more for soup and curry and stuff like that. I quite like the idea of making my own bread. Not sure I would stick with it though so I may as well cut my cost and just get a bread tin. Just ask our Panasonic> SD255.or my Panasonic SD253.I have to make my own bread in order to have half a chance keeping my salt intake under 3.0g a day for health reasons. The SD253 is brilliant. Throw everything and walk away - never had a bad loaf and it's used almost daily. I got the SD253 because it automatically adds the nuts/dry fruit etc at the right point in the cycle & has a good timer length (up to 13 hours on some programs). The Panasonic bread makers always rank highly in the Which reviews. Got mine off ebay for ?52 inc. P&P. It was cheap because it didnt have the manual (down loaded that off the web) and the measurment utensils/jug were missing (easily bought in Woolies for a couple of quid). The actual breadmaker was brand new and came with a 6 mnth guarantee. Yes I could make the bread by hand but I'd rather be spending my time doing more interesting/important things and let the SD253 do it for me. doodlebug
Well thank you, anyone who made a helpful comment. I think I'll go for the Panasonic. Anyone know the difference between the SD255 and SD253? Is the SD255 the later version of the SD253? Keef
Bread makers are great (no it wasn't a wedding present) not only for loaves of bread but for pizzas, doughnuts, pitta breads, all sorts! By the way, why did the baker's hands smell? Cos he kneaded a poo! ... sorry Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2317-breadmakers/#findComment-67280 Share on other sites
