In my house it's a sign of running the Marathon! I've decided to quit between 1st Jan and 13th April (London marathon Date) to allow me no excuses for not getting out and running, but also to lose the extra 3/4 of a stone I want to lose to make the run easier. Stomach is starting to become flatter though I must say.

14th of April is going to be the mother of all hangovers!

Tough time might be this coming drinks night! So if you see me with a drink check it is pineapple and tonic or some such mixture!

E

I don?t weigh myself (it has never crossed my mind to buy scales) but I have gone down 2 notches on my belt in the last 3 weeks. I think it is mostly from eating sensibly though rather than booze.

Although when I?m hungover I eat more so I suppose there is a relationship.

Agree that detox is rubbish. Losing weight by not drinking is a good idea, but unless you are injecting vodka, the body will do you justice when it comes to toxins. I've gone without booze for three months before, and really it didn't bother me after a while, but it was tough for the first three weeks. Drinking is a habit for most of us, a pleasurable one, and that is why it is hard to do without. Same for chocolate, cakes, etc. I think complete abstinence of all treats and drinks is really hard, so don't make it hard on yourself, or you'll just end up feeling down on yourself. Nero

We're more than half way through January so how's it going for everyone?

I too have given up booze for January. I spent two weeks in Las Vegas over Christmas where cocktail hour is 24/7. I was out there with some heavy drinkers so in my effort to keep up I drank for England. Haven't had a drop since five minutes past midnight on new year's eve though. I'm going to cave this Saturday though because I'm going to the opera and I know I will drink.

I've also been going to the gym first thing in the morning and I'm NOT a morning person so it's hard. I even did the classic last week and fell off the treadmill backwards. Very bruised ego I can tell you.

On the whole I've been pretty good in January - just wondered how the rest of ED is doing?

giggle giggle - sorry gigirl

My friend did exactly the same thing when we were at the gym together once, we were both on the running machines and suddenly her machine was going tooooo fast and she couldn't stop it and then she just fell off the back, all the staff came running over, I was laughing so much I nearly fell off myself - classic moment!

Me too - had an even more indulgent Jan than Dec. And Feb is my birthday month, plus a trip up to Glasgow. March anyone?

If I saw it happen to anyone else I would laugh myself into a minor stroke I'm sure. It does hurt though. It's a bit like seeing someone knocking over a big stack of tins at the supermarket - you're just really really pleased that it wasn't you.

I'm still going to the gym. I'm sure they nudge each other and laugh when I walk past.
