Hello ? I wanted to post about a new nursery being opened in Peckham this September. It is for two to four year olds and has 32 places. All of these are completely free ? that?s up to 55 hours per week, for 51 weeks of the year. It will be open between 7.30am and 6.30pm to enable parents to get to and from work.

Our aim is to help parents who are working or studying full time (and those who would like to get into work or education), so that the high cost of good childcare is no longer a barrier. We have secured financial backing from a charitable organisation, so that everything at the nursery is completely free ? including three meals a day and snacks, which will be freshly prepared on-site. The nursery will be run by the Harris Federation and a brilliant nursery manager has already been appointed.

The nursery will have its own dedicated building on the site of Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park, Marmont Road. The building is being renovated this summer and is a really lovely and bright space. There is also an all-weather garden so children get plenty of opportunities to play outside all year round.

Anyone interested can apply online - applications close on 26th July and offers will be made the following week. You can find out more and apply online here: https://www.harrisnurseryhubpeckham.org.uk/

There is an Open Evening on the 17th July at 6pm. This is being held at Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park. We look forward to meeting many local parents and to providing a wonderful social and learning environment for your children from September.

Best wishes,

Poornima (Harris Nursery Hub Peckham)

    • That explanation sounds highly unlikely!  Surely the "days of the week" plates must be a standard size. I know Royal Mail often appears incompetent, but it  couldn't be that stupid, surely. Was it 1 April?!
    • Looking for a short length of electric (twin & earth)  lighting cable. Most likely there could be some in a skip near you??
    • Southwark's recycling guidance says to put shredded paper in the blue bin in a paper envelope or "small box". I've got far too much of it for that  (confidential stuff going back decades) - thanks to the EDF member who kindly gave me a shredder! It would be a "massive box". I have barely started  the shredding, and I've already got an extremely large bagful.   I've read online that you can put it into  large clear plastic bags in the bin for paper,  provided you  clearly label it "shredded paper" and it is obvious what it is. Does anybody know if Southwark would accept it like that? Alternatively, can anyone make use of it for animal bedding or packaging material or adding to  compost?
    • I'm happy to report that some foxgloves are now looking great in my garden. The bees are loving them. Also managed to grow some corn poppies from seed. I've left some decaying logs in the corner so maybe there are some stag beetles there.
