There are things that happen that are completely out of my hands, and I am unable to change them.

Yesterday I had a phone call from my younger sister age 73, living in Eastbourne, she is housebound after accident.

Sheila told me that our brother Brian had died that afternoon, she will of course not be able to attend her twin brothers Funeral.

In my mind that is the most tragic thing that could happen.

In the past circumstances have prevented, us from attending three of our siblings funerals.

Our older sister Edith aged 78 died in Spain, we were unable to get a flight in time.

Our next older sister Doreen aged 83 died in Burnley Lanc?s, we were not able to go because of our own infirmity.

My oldest brother William aged 69 died in the Philippines, the climate meant that the Funeral had to be done immediately.

We were able to attend our next older brother Kenneth aged 61 Funeral as it was at Elmer?s End, coincidently the same Crematorium as will be for Brian. Aged 73.

For me these times are traumatic enough, with out the extra difficulties.

I still have the memory of driving my car to the Crematorium for the Funeral of my father William aged 80, back in 1965 the car broke down outside One Tree Hill, and we had to ran through the Cemetery to the Crematorium just in time to see the coffin disappear from view.

A memory that had haunted me for 47 years.

I do hope that I can get there for Brian, but I am presently being cared for 50 miles away.

and his sister is housebound and can't go either. However, when my mother was in this situation we were able to arrange for a carer to accompany her in a paid taxi. It did cost an arm and a leg but she made the ceremony- a wedding in this case, despite being immobile and a bit doolally. I do wish Computershorted the best of luck with finding a good arrangement.

Hi Computed, very sorry to hear of your loss. I had a similar tragic experience from my mother's death three years ago and very much understand your sense of helplessness.

Try getting in touch with Eastbourne Seniors Forum and see if they can help in some way. They may certainly know of a local taxi service for the housebound and probably subsidised by the local authority too.

They might be of help to your sister for other things as well.

PR...maybe Southwark Circle will be able to help computed if no one comes forward to take him(her)?

Good Luck x

    • Sorry for dragging this back on topic, but earlier I had a discussion with Luca the site manager who was also singing the praises of the 'new' waste management team. He invited me on to the ground to the east of the 'parkrun start' path to check out how well they'd done. Within 20 paces I'd picked up (and given to him) 2 cellophane filter tip wrappers, 3 fag butts, a 2" screw, assorted scraps of plastic wrappers....! He awkwardly then said they were still onsite, and sent 1 guy out to litter pick. He also made the statement that it's "an impossible task". I will be over there tomorrow to find, collect and document all the remaining litter, to assist with next year's consultation. I think it's important to pass on that type of information?
    • Hi My friend who’s a local tree surgeon unfortunately had his small Stihl petrol chainsaw stolen last week. As a tree surgeon, this is pretty gutting.    I wondered whether anyone on here might have a spare secondhand one that they don’t use anymore. Or perhaps one that’s been left in a shed or garage gathering dust that isn’t needed. Joe would be delighted and very grateful if we could magic him a replacement soon! 🤩 Thanks so much!  Claire (07946) 728879
    • Thanks to Coe and Lard  for playing this, hadn't heard it for so so long,  This is a poor recording, but predates the punk explosion  of the late 70s, so ahead of the game....
    • I don't eat meat but if I had an air rifle the various vermin would be very afraid.  I've trapped squirrels in the loft, I wont go any further on that one. The Horniman Nature Reserve rats will take on any of yours, apart from.... Cox's walk which takes on another level.  During Covid it felt like you were in Hamelin.
