Today: free bike maintenance with hands-on tuition July 2nd

Recommended Posts

Free and everyone welcome. This is part of a series of similar sessions every first and third Tuesday in Camberwell between 6.30-8.30pm. It is a co-operative effort by Southwark Cyclists and the Lettsom Tenants and Residents Association who own the hall. We provide the person-power and they provide the venue. FWIW the hall is not as hard to find as I was led to believe -- I keep cycling past it while not doing anything particularly obscure. It's at 114 Vestry Road SE5 8PQ and is visible from the road.

This is a drop-in rather than a course. You can come once with a bike problem and get it fixed (with technical explanation) or come many times and learn about other people's bike problems. Come when you can or need to is probably the best advice. They have been locked out of the hall during June but I'm told that door-opening capabilities have been re-established and this week's session will be indoors.

Southwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign https://lcc.org.uk. Everything we do is free and open to all. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk. For further info about us you can email [email protected] (slow method) or text me on 07842 640 207 -- this method is quicker but I may not know the answer.

    • I see their website has it as https://www.royalmail.com/services-near-you/delivery-office/peckham-and-east-dulwich-delivery-office-se15-5au, though I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're also distinct administrative or operational entities for some purposes.  I note, for example, that Peckham (SE15) isn't on the list.
    • A reminder of the current situation. Covid-19 Eligibility: https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/ Availability: NHS are no longer running their own appointment-making system. This winter's version is still available from pharmacies until 31 January.   They may have individual availability times, see:  https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/pharmacy/find-a-pharmacy-offering-walk-in-COVID-19-vaccination-services Flu Flu vaccinations (65+, pregnant, higher risk, or private) are available from some pharmacies.  See https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/pharmacy/find-a-pharmacy-that-offers-free-flu-vaccination for details of eligibility and a link to a pharmacy finder. Some may offer appointments: you may have to dig down into their individual listing. RSV Currently eligible/recommended: If pregnant (at 28+ weeks), or age 75-79, or became 80 on or after 1 Sept 2024. This has been available from GP practices.  I was offered one by text.  When I responded a week later they didn't have any available but gave me one by appointment three weeks later. https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/rsv-vaccine/ Other vaccines https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/
    • I get that they're being pollarded. This estate was built in the 60's and so I'm guessing that they're around 60 years old.  Nothing wrong with that but even when they re-grow they're hardly going to be the most attractive. Y'know just musing on improving the look of our public spaces.
    • Pretty repetitive on the transport section.  I like a good discussion and this does raise wider issues.  I miss banks more than post office branches which tend to be part of other stores.  A few other threads on the Lounge, come on over.  Or 🐕 💩
