free bike maintenance with tuition June 18th Camberwell

Recommended Posts

This is a joint venture with the Lettsom Tenants and Residents Association using the tenants' hall in Vestry Road. Southwark Cyclists volunteers supervised by a professional mechanic fix all bikes and teach how to do it. The show-n-tell method. Result: your bike gets fixed and you have more idea how to do it yourself when it goes wrong again. This is all free and open to all.

Two weeks ago the session was held outdoors because the TRA mislaid the key. It's not clear whether they've found it again now so let's hope. The session is 6.30-8.30pm. The tuition is not being taught as a class or series. What gets taught depends on what problems come in. So if you are interested just rock up and there should be something new going on.

The only tricky bit I'm told is finding the hall. There's a picture of it here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/free-bike-maintenance-with-hands-on-tuition-4/ with (slightly) more detailed instructions. I saw it yesterday by accident but I'm not sure I could find it again.

Southwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. The LCC campaigns to make London's cycling facilities world class. Everything we do is free and open to everyone. To get in touch email [email protected] (slow method), tweet @southwarkcycle or text me on 07842 640 207. I might not know the answer but I'm friendly.

    • Avoid Foxtons.  Horrendous experience with them last year.
    • I see their website has it as https://www.royalmail.com/services-near-you/delivery-office/peckham-and-east-dulwich-delivery-office-se15-5au, though I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're also distinct administrative or operational entities for some purposes.  I note, for example, that Peckham (SE15) isn't on the list.
    • A reminder of the current situation. Covid-19 Eligibility: https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/ Availability: NHS are no longer running their own appointment-making system. This winter's version is still available from pharmacies until 31 January.   They may have individual availability times, see:  https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/pharmacy/find-a-pharmacy-offering-walk-in-COVID-19-vaccination-services Flu Flu vaccinations (65+, pregnant, higher risk, or private) are available from some pharmacies.  See https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/pharmacy/find-a-pharmacy-that-offers-free-flu-vaccination for details of eligibility and a link to a pharmacy finder. Some may offer appointments: you may have to dig down into their individual listing. RSV Currently eligible/recommended: If pregnant (at 28+ weeks), or age 75-79, or became 80 on or after 1 Sept 2024. This has been available from GP practices.  I was offered one by text.  When I responded a week later they didn't have any available but gave me one by appointment three weeks later. https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/rsv-vaccine/ Other vaccines https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/
    • I get that they're being pollarded. This estate was built in the 60's and so I'm guessing that they're around 60 years old.  Nothing wrong with that but even when they re-grow they're hardly going to be the most attractive. Y'know just musing on improving the look of our public spaces.
