Annette - the 90 com width (1.5 standard unit size) rules out the beasts above. I'm looking at up to ?3k but not sure I'll be able to tell the difference between one at 1.5k or that price point if I'm honest. I too quite like a decent NEFF style 5 burner hob and oven. But an extra WARMING OVEN on most range cookers is luring me in. Warm plates. Warm food.

It's right up there with an ice crusher and dedicated wine coolers in the non-essential kitchen-wank stakes...but like GG will I actually use it?

I got one from Currys for ?600 and it has served the test of time ths far.

In fact it was the brushed steel version of this http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/kenwood-ck414-dual-fuel-range-cooker-stainless-steel-and-black-06273932-pdt.html 90cm dual fuel

Depends on what you will be cooking - if you just want to cook oven chips and Iceland pizzas then go for something cheap and shiny, on the other hand if you are the sort of person who thinks nothing of knocking up a hollandaise for your poached quail egg breakfast before work then you probably want something a bit better:

I would go for one of these (in stainless steel obviously)

http://www.rangecookers.co.uk/falcon-900-deluxe-product,354.aspx

Curtain, El Pibe - both picked stainless steel - is that the current choice of finish for the hipsters of ED? I'm thinking "hard to clean finger prints"

DB - I like that Falcon but quite like having a window into the ovens for some reason.

Which? rate the Rangemaster 90 but also say that you're never exactly sure what temp the oven is at with it's dial and that would bother me.

It also has a tray for the roast which attaches to the door so you can check it without lifting out of the oven = neat.

I have just moved house and inherited a rangemaster professional - two ovens, separate grill, 5 burners and hot plate thing. I effing love it. Buy one buy one now! It makes doing a Sunday dinner so much easier as you can have one oven slow roasting and the other one at warp speed for yorkshires.
  • 2 months later...

Looking for an oven for the new house. We have a 1200mm gap to fill and they all seem a bit pricey for that.

I found a funky steel cuisine cooker and thought 'that's the one' but nearly died of a heart attack at the ?5,400 price tag.

Can anyone recommend a sexy cooker for your dream house without necessarily breaking the bank?

I think it's a bit late for that now unfortuantely as the walls are going up.

It was originally for La Piba's mum's old aga we were getting reconditioned, but the cost of running those things is

astronomical, plus we've carefully worked out all our heat sources for the houses requirements.

I think we could put in work surfaces at either side of the recess or something, so you could be on to something.

In reality what I'll do is spend 6 months beating myself up about it and finally spending ludicrous sums on the cooker in question else I'll spend the next 15 years walking past the inferior cooker and tutting at myself.

    • I was in Forest Hill Road today, just past the Rye, and noticed there is a dentist next to the Herne (pub) that has NHS signs outside. I've never had any problems getting NHS dental treatment in East Dulwich, and I get regular check ups. I've been to three  different dental practices here over the years, all with NHS treatment. I think the difficulties are in other parts of the country. Malumbu has a good explanation above. I didn't hear the Radio 4 programme, but I'm guessing that a  radio programme is not going to have time to say where you CAN easily get NHS treatment, and is bound to focus on the negatives and the horror stories, otherwise it would be very boring! ETA: Re children's teeth, I think the major issue is not lack of dentists, it is children being given sugary food, drinks and confectionery which rots their teeth. The education of parents needs to be about this, not just about tooth brushing. And in some cases the poor diet may also be due to lack of money for healthy food. Though of course the lack of dentists doesn't help, if  the tooth rotting can't be rectified by fillings or extraction.
    • Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.
    • Yes thanks that's exactly the choices I get.  I will block and if somehow they find a way back I'll report.
