Omrith is bloody good.

The Mirash did the business and confirmed its status as a fine knocker out of a standard curry offer without being avant-garde.

We have now done all of the curry houses in the immediate vicinity of ED.

A decision was made (by me) to keep the Curry Club as the Curry Club, with a specific curry focus. However, we felt that we could on occasion patronise neighbouring areas, such as Nunhead, which is very pleasant, for a cemetary, and other providers of spicy offerings, such as Thai restaurants and stuff.

Next CC meet is mid October, date TBC as is the venue. How about Tandoori Nights? The CC's first ever meeting was there about 12 months ago.

I'd like to come along one day - but there always seem to be clashes. Given what appears to be growing numbers would T Nights be a little on the small side? AS before if you're going outside of LL I'd recommend Ganapati, tho' I've always meant to try Babur in Honor Oak but haven't yet.

The general trend re numbers is that the further afield the restaurant the fewer the attendees. Thus we have had up to 12 for Lordship Lane restaurants and as few as four for Ganapati in Bellenden.

Larger bookings for the smaller restaurants are OK, as long as people show up. No-shows have less of an impact for the larger restaurants, if you see what I mean.

I started this thread in January but we had done one or two meals at the end of 2007.

The Curry Club is officially, an institution.

Shall we revisit Tandoori Nights next month?

How about 22 October @ Surma for the next one? (Post originally suggested Tandoori Nights, but Sean McG pointed out that we hadnt been to Surma. So, Tandoori Nights in November?)

For info, I think we have done:

2007

29/11 - Tandoori Nights

19/12 - Mirash

2008

8/1- Curry Cabin

13/2 - Pistachio Club

5/3 - Ganapati

29/4 - Omrith

16/6 - Jaflong

17/7 - Dulwich Tandoori

20/8 - Coriander

17/9 - Mirash

Looking back we seem to have missed out May, I suspect because the April meal was late in the month. We also went to the Mirash twice, but the first visit was a last minute, off Forum arrangement and has been included in the list to fill a gap.

Any other recommendations? There are plenty of places that are in surrounding areas, but getting people along can be difficult. We only had 4 people to Ganapati and thats in Bellenden! The ED ones attract 10 or more people. So if we do venture out to the wilds of Forest Hill or Camberwell etc, we need to make sure that getting there and back is easy.

Mondays would be best for me & how many people are in your club?

    • Ask the surgeries.  Most dentists  I have been to were child friendly.  The only one was the school dentist who'd come in a caravan and do lots of unnecessary work, which I now suffer from.
    • Round-robin letter received this week regarding this. Main points are that the number of new homes is being reduced from 877 to 867. OK, not much change there, but.... "A reduction in the number of affordable homes from 270 (35% by habitable room) to 77 (12% by habitable room)" That's a 72% reduction in the number of affordable homes. I don't know a lot about this kind of thing, but it seems that just 77 affordable homes in a development of 867 is a massive pee-take in an area where a 1-bed flat is £400K+ if it isn't "affordable." If you're interested, the application can be viewed at https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/ ref 24/AP/2074 and there's a lot of objections to the reduction in affordable homes. The drop-in sessions are Weds 26th Feb (Peckham Library) and Mon 3rd March (All Saints Church) at 3pm. Full details attached. 24_AP_2074-FILE_COPY_-_NEIGHBOUR_NOTIFICATION_LIST-4005193.pdf
    • I noticed 4 gone in a short stretch of Bellenden Road alone this weekend. I had no idea it was to do with the tech and thought that it was a retro Beastie Boys thing. Showing my age. Sorry I can only find a Facebook link if you are too young to remember this: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=578367166664170 Totally agree that it's a bad design flaw, and I bet the actual cost of the parts to VW is minimal so they could easily cough up some of the replacement costs. It's depressing that someone can go along a street popping these things off cars with very little worry about being prosecuted.
    • Hello all, we are looking for a local child friendly dentist after deciding our old dentist doesn’t have the nack for kids, Suggestions appreciated
