Morning,

I have recently moved onto Upland Road. I had British Gas round to quote for a new boiler. They said they could not install a combi because the water pressure is so low in my flat.

When I use a tap or shower it is a poor flow. I have asked my neighbor and she has the same issue.

Does anyone know if this is a general problem in the area and if there are any plans to upgrade the supplies/pipes to the houses?

I suspect this is not going to be any easy or cheap issue to fix.

Thanks

I would check with Thames Water - pressure is not high around here, but for most people sufficient for combi-boilers - so I suspect you and your neighbour (if you're in the same house) may have a specific problem with your supply. Thames Water can test and should remedy if this is so.

Thames Water are supposed to guarantee a minimum of 1 bar pressure. Their code of practice says "As a guide, your first tap in your home, usually your cold kitchen tap, should be able to fill a 4.5 litre (1 gallon) bucket in 30 seconds with all the other taps and appliances turned off."

Thanks @Ed-Pete and @Penguine68,

My neighbour has a combi but still struggles with the pressure. An independent plumber, not Brit Gas, fitted it. Brit Gas said one might work in my flat but they would not fit it. I guess they do not want to be made liable for due to a veritable outside of their control.

I will give Thames Water a call. I suspect the feed into the house meets their minimum service requirements so I will need to get the work done myself (by someone like Dyno).

Not sure a Megaflow would make any difference. They're only as good as the incoming pressure/flow rate and the below site recommends a minimum of 1.5 bar & 20 l/m

Maybe try calling Billy Hunter - he gets a lot of recommendations on this forum for boiler installations and as he works locally he may be able to suggest a solution to your low pressure.

    • Surely nobody is going to want books in poor condition, unless they are rare and possibly valuable?
    • Is that not only true within certain hours? I just did a quick Google and this came up (not specifically Southwark): The Noise Act 1996 defines "night hours" as 11 pm to 7 am, and local councils can take action if noise levels are excessive during this time. This means they can issue warning notices or even investigate for a statutory nuisance if the noise is particularly disruptive, according to Gov.uk.  I'm sure it's more complicated than that, and I'm sure it's been discussed on here before, though I can't remember which thread.
    • Get on those waiting lists asap if you haven't already. I waited till after the birth and it was very challenging getting a place once our daughter turned 1.  She ended up at LEYF Camberwell (we had to accept 2 days to start and gradually got to ramp up 5 days). She absolutely loved it there after an initial shaky start but her key worker and team worked really hard to settle her in. They spent a lot of time giving her cuddles and making her feel safe. Great outdoor space and really caring, enthusiastic staff with low turnover. Would highly recommend.
    • We are expecting a baby in a few months, and have heard about the epic waiting lists for nurseries in the area... We have been to look around, and are considering, LEYF Camberwell, N Family Club Camberwell and Purple Jay Herne Hill. Would love to hear any feedback from experienced parents!
